Surgery and lymphodema

I recently had a panniculectomy done after the surgery about 18 inches opened up which left me with an open wound so I am not able to get into my lymph pod so the swelling has gotten out of control and I was wonderering if anyone had any ideas of what I could do to bring it under control. Oh the swelling is from my chest down to my feet.

Hi,

It sounds like you this is a very challenging time for you. I would advise that you request an appointment with your lymphoedema therapist as soon as possible, to see if they can help. It is important that you have adequate compression in all circumstances.

Good luck

I did have a gastric bypass and I believe this is what caused my condition. I did have it under control with my lymph pod and bandaging but in order to continue into the next step which would be compression garmets I needed surgery to remove the excessive skin, and like I stated after the surgery 18 inches just burst open the surgeon said it was due to the lyphoedema. I have been taking care of that wound which prevents me from getting into my pod which unfortunately now I am very swollen I've tried self massage but it does not really help thats why I was asking for any ideas it is so frustrating because I did everything to be healthy and it only made my lyphodema worse.

The Lympha Pod is one of the garments for use with the Lympha Press for larger patients. it is extremely effective in helping reduce volume. NNE

What recommendations is your surgeon offering with regards to wound care? Is it being dressed by District Nurses? Are you able to wear the compression garments you may have been given post-op?

Thank you for your suggestions I will look into that website, and yes I do have nurses taking care of the wound as for my surgeon she says everything looks great I am comming along well it's just the swelling is a little out of control. Is there anything I can use to bring the swelling down in my abdomen?
