I’ve heard of new treatments for specific types of asthma like eosinophilic asthma, such as shots I believe or maybe different types of inhalers? I’m interested in looking into that as a cause for my asthma, as mine has gotten worse over the years. I wouldn’t volunteer myself for a clinical trial because I have many other health problems and I wouldn’t want to be the test subject without knowing what I’m getting myself into

I have not tried any new asthma treatments but am using herbal and natural treatments under the guidance of a naturopathic doctor. These are so beneficial that I have no interest in clinical treatments.

If what you’re doing is working, you wouldn’t be eligible for a study. The studies are pretty much universally restricted to people whose asthma is treated and still out of control.

For me it’s worth the risk.

I have read about the treatment for the eosinophilic. Sometimes I do wonder if I might need to be checked for that. I am going to mention it to my pulmonologist when I go for my next appt. Not sure about the clinicals trials.

I have not heard of any new treatments for asthma. Yes, I would consider a clinical trial in my area.

I would like to take part in clinical trial in my area. The worst part of double blind trials is that you may recieve placebo, not an actual drug.

I've read a lot about new biological drugs and I think that they are the future of asthma therapy.

The newest treatment I'm aware of is bronchial thermoplasty, which was in the news a little while ago. I mentioned it on the AsthmaUK forum & there were a few people on there who had taken part in the trials for it, it seems with mixed results.

There's an interesting article here as well about the state of play with newer treatments:

The problem with thermoplasy is that your asthma can be so bad that you can’t have it. It requires theee treatments with a tube down your throat (can trigger asthma (can trigger asthma), anesthesia (can trigger asthma), and the actual thermoplasty (highly likely to trigger your asthma).

Three times you take that risk.

They wouldn’t do that on me but I wouldn’t risk it anyway.

I’m applying for one right now. I’ve been in intensive care twice this month alone. We’ve tried just about everything that’s out there except Nucala and Xolair. My copay would be about $1700, more than half my monthly income.

Got turned down because I was just in the hospital. They said, “Maybe later,” but at this time of year I land in the hospital about once a month—twice this month.

No it’s not something I really keep up to date with, but I might consider doing a clinical trial - I would need sufficient information about it first though.

I do not like to participate in clinical trials. My doctor suggested shots and

I would be okay with that. We are seeing if my insurance would cover it.

Well of course I would! Please keep us all posted of the advances in asthma treatments as you receive them. Thank you!

Ive been a research subject for the NIH funded SARP study ( Severe Asthma Research Program or severeasthma.org) for the past 8 years. This is not a clinical trial, but rather a data collecting study , of which the findings are shared with asthma researchers around the world.

I would be very interested
