Lungs will not keep up with the body. I do it, but small jogs are tough.. After 66 years, it seems to be getting worse. I do fight it..

Coughing, spitting out phlegm, tightness of chest

The symptoms that have bothered me the most are chest tightness, and coughing up phlegm. I’d say my asthma has not gotten better or worse. It’s still about the same!

Actually after my pulmonologist frankly told me to loose weight or die it has gotten better although my allergic asthma is severe I do all my medicines each day or I suffer. By the way I got a gastric bypass 10 yrs ago and lost 230 pounds and have only gained back 20 or so pounds.

My asthma stays about the same depending on the triggers I expose my self to.

Getting sick so many times a year with chronic bronchitis has impacted my life the most but the last year with all my meds I have been free of sickness for the year. When I got sick it took three weeks to get over it.

I am still pretty new to all of this, but I do feel a bit better now that the bronchitis is under control. The constant mucus in my throat and feeling like I'm always trying to get someone's attention by clearing it is frustrating. It has been hard getting used to not being able to do certain things without becoming short of breath. At this point, exercise is very difficult. Slow daily walks are about the most I can do without causing a flare up. The other frustration is the lack of understanding from others of how this impacts your life. I have been told that it's "all in my head" and if I "just relax and take a deep breath (my favorite)" I would feel better.

I too have recently got diagnosed with asthma. The throat clearing is terrible. Hope you feel better.

It is not in your head! I have been told this same thing. People do not understand what an asthmatic is going through and why they cant be around certain things. My Main trigger is scented stuff. perfumes, cleaning products, Lysol, hairspray, candles and those plugins. It is awful.

Symptoms increasingly grew worse last 2 years.Repeated bouts of bronchitis, pneumonia, hypersensitivity pneumonitis were direct cause. Great team of docs work to fine tune treatment.

I added breathing, meditation, relaxation and yoga techniques. Herbal teas, spices and herbs and raw honey recipes for inflammation and breathing help. These gave me back a sense of control. That had a positive impact too!

Hardest part for me was giving in to the need to make changes and even giving up some activities. Triggers change and can be unpredictable. I have learned to adapt and modify activities.

What isn't discussed is the impact asthma can have on mental wellness. (Worked in field so possibly more aware.) As a Christmas is illness and the multitude of impacts it can make on quality of life can lead to depression. Which further impact the asthma. That's why I feel it's so important to feel a sense of control. Find ways to do favorite activities a bit differently. No feeling "shame because you're sick again"...it is not a personality failure. The only shame is lack of understanding by others when you can seem fine and within minutes asthma is triggered.

I think what has impacted my daily life the most is general weakness. I can’t do much without resting. I sometimes have to use the buggy at the store to ride on. I’ve gotten worse. Secondly, I have to cover all the bleeding under my skin on my forearms. Any little tap or brush against something leaves a mark that spreads and lasts for two plus weeks. Steroid skin I call it.

The most? With asthma, I think, the daily fear that this might be the day that I really can’t breathe. Asthma can and does kill, I mean it can’t be in your forethought, or it would stop you in your tracks. But that little fear is there. Other than that is the wheezing, all I need is to hear someone on tv breathing like that, and I can feel it a little. And coughing, and tight feeling in my lungs.

It has not worsened or lessened with time. It is always bad unless I am on steroids. The coughing is the worst, especially in the morning and at night.

My asthma has become worse with time. Even though I try everything I can.

Its gotten much better. Even though I'm 59 years old I guess you can apply it to the adage of it gets better with age (wine).

The part where I can’t do a lot of physical activity really sucks. But my asthma has improved drastically In the past year now that I’m on a gluten free diet

I don't really know what is to be expected. I have some good days and I have had some bad days, that's when I let my guards down and don't always take into consideration the seasons. Turning of the seasons does have an effect on me.

It had started to get better until I moved to Austin and the cedar trees and mold spores gradually made things worse to where I had to get better treatment. My primary physician could not get my symptoms controlled and referred me to my pulmonary doctor. I've come a long way since 2009 and now things are very much under control.
