Hi my name is Sheila I am 45 years old an I have been suffering with anxiety since I was 9 years old and as I have gotten older it really seems to have gotten worse for me.I have been on so many different medications that I cannot remember all of them. Anxiety was a start of my mental illness. I look forward to meeting new people. Pinkitulips

Hello Shelia

Sorry no one has replied , this used to be a lovely Community and quiet active but since some members left no one seems to use it so much and that will be the only reason no one has replied to you and nothing else , I pop on here now and again to have a look and saw your post :-)

I relate to everything you have said

I was younger than 9 when my anxiety started and a few years older than you are now and no back in the day it was not spoken about and if you did you were afraid people would lock you up and throw the key away so you were more lightly to stay quiet , also when you did try to speak up you would just get stop been silly or pull yourself together which would just make you feel even worse because if only it were that simple

Problem I found is though I went through life and my anxiety followed and because I kept it under wraps it just got bigger and bigger adding on ocd and yes agoraphobia to till it got to a stage where I realized I had to speak out and ask for help and trust me even though there is still a way to go regarding Mental Health problems there is so much more knowledge and understanding now and no they don't lock us up and throw the key away either :-/

Have you anyone you could confide in ?

I would go and speak with my Doctor , write everything down that you want to tell them maybe even your post because I know it will be very difficult for you to go because of the agoraphobia so having it all written down if you feel you cannot talk when you get there then just pass them that and let them read it

I manage to get to the Doctors , straight there and back , I go in a Taxi and yes I feel I want to scream and I panic and everything else you feel but nothing bad happens and that is what you have to try and remember , it feels really unpleasant but nothing bad will happen to you

Talking to others on these sites really helps to know you are not alone and understood but you do also need some therapy maybe or medication to help you get your life back and you can get it back we just need to tell someone we need help and by posting you have already made that first move , now keep building on that :-)

Have you looked at the Anxiety Support site yet on here as well ?

I will put you the link on that will take you straight to that Community to as you can be a member on as many Communities as you like on HU and there is a little more activity on there even though by all means keep talking on here if you prefer to do so :-)

Take Care x
