I like winter to me it's like being a bear going into hybernating lol. Holidays seem stressful to me since now a days everything is so commercialized Lots of pressure at times an I don't like that.

Hi mimii

I am glad you have seen the poll , I am wondering if members get notified when a new one is put on ?

I am the same as you , I find Christmas very stressful & feel it is very commercialized to & every year I try really hard not to get drawn into it all as it makes me feel anxious but so far I have not succeeded :-/

Thank you for your vote & reply :-)

Hi mini.

The run up to Christmas is stressful, and it starts so early nowadays"

I really hate the dark nights, feel so cut off some times with the curtains closed, and as I live alone it's a long night .

Hi All,

Don't really notice the anxiety, but winter definitely brings my depression back.

Then when that happens the anxiety soon follows.

Must just be a SAD person.

in reply to

Hi

I think the dark nights maybe don't help but I don't think you are a sad person :-)

WhyWhy I find November very grey and gloomy, but I try my best

To make the best of every season. In Winter I like to cosy up and light

A candle or two to relax.

anxiety is worse in the summer because the heat makes me irritable and inability to sleep adds to anxiety. Also if it's nice outside and I don't feel like going out, then I feel more guilty than if it was raining!

I hate the dark nights too, prefer summer when I can get out in the evening. Don't like going out on my own in the dark x

Ya know I was thinking it's not just us with anxiety I think in general it's everyone !!! Don't get me wrong I love summer but I cannot handle heat an humidity it makes me feel very anxious an I see people out doing so many things then I get down at times. Plus I am home a lot by myself hubby works midnights an sleeps most of the day I get very bored but try an keep myself busy by reading a lot or little projects :)

I like the beginning of autumn as it corresponds with what I remember as the beginning of school which was always a good time for me; school terms meant structure routine things I could rely on and I am still the same now which is why I like to do a college course to "keep my going" though the terms seem to start later and later!

Christmas is a terrible time for me with all those expectations of being with family and "happy families" when I have very little family at all and they are very dysfunctional. I hate the fact that the colleges, libraries and more or less everything are closed; it is the same as the "weekend"; your're expected to be spending time with "the family"; but if you don't have any then it is a very hard time and brings it home to you your life situation and seems to make everything feel worse . Hi,

Your comment got me thinking, I too like structure, I like to know on what day I will be there, what I will be doing etc.

Although I am very lucky to have a good family, who all invite me to spend Christmas together, I find it difficult, just to sit about, I like normality, and as you say everything closes over this period. We all go a long walk on boxing day which I love, eat out at a pub, and walk home, if I have the energy. We used to all go and spend the New Year in a cottage in Wales away from everything, that was great.

Hi,

I do like Autumn, when he weather is dry and I can get out walking in the woods.

I do hate it when it's been raining, and it goes dark so early.

I like the build up for Christmas, especially if you have a young family, but by the time January/February sets in it is so dismal. So here's hoping October will be as fine a month as September has been.

Christmas is the big trigger for me. The expectation to conform to social situations.

I'm sure it's because it's cold and less hours sunshine :-)

I like the cosyness of winter and the fact that there's less people around. But lying out in the sun is very relaxing if no noisy neighbours around! Oh dear I do sound unsociable but it's when my anxiety is playing up it all affects me worse. If I'm going through a good time I am sociable. Sam xx

Better in winter, safer in the house and don't have to go as much.

Why Why,

Have you polled members to see how much light and darkness effects their moods.

I know for one, even in winter bright sunshine perks me up and SAD is an accepted problem and a cause of both depression and anxiety.

Also another well known cause is friends relationships.

My poor phone bill.

Autumn is my favourite season weather-wise but the longer periods of darkness take their toll on me over time. I use an SAD lightbox from September onwards and still deciding whether this helps xx
