Good day folks. As I told you last week that I was going to see my consultant. Well this is what he said. You had a Lipoedema test in April and it is within the the normal level. So I said how can a blood test tell this. I have all the symptoms and a blood test can't take this away. So I pleaded with him to send me to the Lipoedema clinic and he said I will talk to my colleague and let you know. I went home and cried all night because my life is not worth living the way it is and I don't know what else to do. I have so much pain in my knees ankles and back that with this Lipoedema as well it is just getting me down. Can anyone offer any advise please.. sorry for the rant

Sounds like your physician doesn't know what Lipoedema is. There isn't a blood test for it. A lipid test is to do with your blood/cholesterol analysis - nothing to do with Lipoedema. Find a physiotherapist who can treat lymphoedema and knows what Lipoedema is. All the best.

That's what I said but this guy just said he would talk to his colleague and get back to me. So I am going to save up and go private. Thanks for your reply

My wife went for years with doctors not knowing what it was. Eventually we found the symptoms online and knew it was lipoedema. We printed out the information about lipoedema from the NHS website, gave it to the doctor, explained how he could test for it, and he agreed with us it was lipoedema. Then we asked for a referral to the local lymphodema clinic, having already located it and phoned them to check that they take referrals for lipoedema.

The doctor hadn't come across lipoedema, even though up to 11% of women suffer from it. They are only taught about lymphodema and that it is usually as a result of the aftereffects of cancer.

You need a doctor that isn't too proud to admit they don't know everything, and go in prepared and informed. It is important to get an early diagnosis and treatment if you can, before it progresses to later stages and possibly changes into lipo-lymphodema.

Good luck.

I'm not sure where you are based but you could try calling your local Lymphoedema clinic and ask if you can self refer for a diagnosis? If they agree they can then send a letter to your GP confirming a diagnosis and you can then request compression. Good luck
