Is this looking bad?

Hi I'm Ade aged 40.

For the last 2 months I've been getting terrible mouth and tongue ulcers and achey bones. But apart from that been fine, I went to docs who took blood test on Wednesday for vitamin deficiency. On Thursday they range me and said my white cell count came back as high, would carry out further checks and call Friday.

So Friday I received another call saying my White cell count was 26, he asked me if i had been ill and how did I feel and I said been all ok.

He then asked me to come in and talk face to face but I asked him to just tell me straight on the phone. He said the words leukemia and since then everything was a blur.. now their closed and I wish I asked them, have I got it? Do you suspect this? Could it be something else?

I am now waiting for an appointment for a bone marrow biopsy in the next week or so..

Not knowing and waiting is very hard. Your mind will be all over the place. It’s a difficult time, find a friend or family member you can talk to. Before my husband was diagnosed was the most difficult time of our lives, the diagnosis was a relief. Try to stay active and keep to routines, you’ll get through this, one day at a time. Until you have results there is nothing you can do. Think positive. Wishing you luck and best wishes.

Hiya?

Very little can be deduced from that single result.

Do you have more details?

Hb. Platelets. Lymphocytes. Neutrophils?

A white count of 26 (UK) can be normal. I am surprised they have not repeated the tests.

Clearly they are concerned as a BMarrow biopsy is not something done on a whim.

Best wishes. Keep in touch.

Thanks for replies, they didn't say anymore to me about results in detail. The way he spoke to me he didn't say "it could be this it could be that, let's not worry yet" or " let's wait for this next test"

it was quite direct, I do remember him saying this is serious... I'm sorry if I'm vague it was a blur..

I did have a blood test in January as I suffer with anxeity, they phoned me then and said my white blood cell was higher than usual and would need further investigations. As I felt well and was actually going through a divorce at the time i didn't go back.

I think the doctor had compared those results to these as I'm sure he said it had risen again since Jan.

Hi!

Indeed its a tricky period for you know.

What is important is to deal with what you know, not what you imagine. Keep off Google!!

As 2003UK says, there are 135 blood cancers, I would put it at around 175! It is a complicated world! So deal with facts. Dont allow yourself to be fobbed off with vague statements. Get facts. Record them. Then seek help. Be very careful about using Google. As 2003UK says - ring Leukaemia Care.

Return to this site, HUnlocked have other Forums - I have CLL. The CLL forum is very active and massively resourced by active members.

One step at a time. Keep in touch.

Take care.

Hi, I really felt for you when I read the title of your post and your post, you feel you might have received earth shattering news and now your surgery is closed all weekend. Obviously your GP is ordering more tests before making a final diagnosis. Unfortunately symptoms can be caused by many different factors. A lot of us are living with leukaemia's and there are over 135 different blood conditions, some requiring treatments and others on a system of active monitoring often called 'watch and wait'. The not knowing can be the worst part and I certainly remember the feeling of being in a blur, or bubble, with the world going on around me. I find it useful to write down all the fears, questions, thoughts and feelings I have before a medical appointment and then write down the answers and even ask the follow up questions. We are all here to support you and if you feel you need to talk to someone the Leukaemia Care Charity helpline is open Monday - Friday 9am until 5pm and they have a special evening service on a Thursday and Friday 7pm - 10pm. The number is freephone 08088 010 444. Please keep posting. and take care.

Ok, been back to docs today as I felt I needed more info and didn't take it in fully.

I found out my blood test in January my white cell count was 13, last week 26.

I think one of the individual results from the blood test (cant remmeber name) points towards CML, as this was mentioned in the results sent to the doctor.

This is what they are led to believe but until my bone marrow test it isn't fully confirmed.
