Sorry to hear of that experience littledab. I had one done on Monday (my first) and whilst it wasn’t at all pleasant, the procedure went much easier than yours.

Sound like you need sedation for the next one (should you need one but hopefully not!). There is something slightly ‘barbaric’ about the thought of the whole process! 😱

Hi there

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with the biopsy. My husband has had 5 over the 4 months and he’s always been offered gas and air. He used it on the last one and spent most of his time high as a kite and giggling.

If you have to have another one, I’d insist on the gas and air.

Good luck x

Ouch oh dear, sorry to learn you had a painful experience first time round. hopefully you may not require another one for a while, if you do have to after treatment, ask for the gas and air. I have had a few different experiences with them through the years, never a pleasant feeling but only once was it really painful,

Good luck with your results

Sorry about that littledab,

My first BNB was an unnecessary event such as you describe. I believe that the hematologist that did the first BNB did not care about the patients perspective and he had no business performing the procedure. The second BNB was done by a caring qualified specialist and was almost uneventful.

BNB's are currently a necessary measure to aid in the prognostics, observation, and treatment progress of CLL.

Hopefully in the near future newer technological advances will replace BNB with a less invasive procedure.

Better days ahead!

Sorry to hear this. I think you were just unlucky. I have had 5 or 6 a couple with gas and air, one with medasoline “? spelling” and others with just the local. None were too bad. On the plus side your bone density must be good.

Hi littledab, So sorry to hear your experience. Mine was horribly painful, too, and if I ever have to have another, I shall ask to be sedated. The pain in my hip lasted for many days after the procedure, and yet I have heard that some people don't have any pain at all! I was surprised it was so painful because I had had it done many years ago in my sternum and it was hardly painful at all. Hopefully, we won't need it done again. Who knows?

Good luck! Maggie

Hi there

I feel for you littledab. Sadly they are a necessary evil 👿

I’ve had about 10, each one gets worse! I’ve tried

Midazolam, but it didn’t work!

Now I stick to Entinox, (gas ‘n’ air), which gets me through.

They also have trouble with me, as have very deep seated hip bones and they end up needing a very long needle to get the sample!

I’ve got my next one on Tuesday 😬, as well as an Intrathecal on Friday!

Xx
