Prescription for Hashimotos

Hi all,

I’m on the waiting list to see an nhs endocrinologist due to my Hashimotos disease. I’m wondering how likely they would be to prescribe LDN for my high antibodies and if anyone has experience of this? If I find I get nowhere with the nhs I’m also willing to go private, therefore I am open to suggestions on how to best go about getting a private prescription if needed, but would like to try through nhs first.

I’m going to be trying to conceive soon, I had a recent miscarriage which could have been thyroid related and there is some evidence suggesting thyroid antibodies can directly cause this which is why I am so keen to look into LDN as there’s evidence it lowers antibodies. Also I’m supplementing properly and have gone gluten free to see if that helps as there’s som evidence for this.

Thanks

I don't live in the UK, but am a volunteer for the trust. In 5 years of volunteering, I've seen very few NHS doctors prescribe LDN. However, Dickson Chemist in Scotland ( dicksonchemist.co.uk/new/ ) is very involved with the Trust and LDN Community. They will help you find a LDN knowledgeable doctor - I believe they work with a Telemed doctor.

Our website has information on prescribers, pharmacies, studies, etc. I highly recommend reading through it. There is also information on LDN helping with fertility and carrying a baby issues.

Hope this helps!Michelle

Hi Megan,

I have hashismoto's and in the UK and you will probably get blank looks asking your GP for LDN. I have had better help from a facebook group for ME/fibro and they have details where you can buy your own LDN much cheaper. You can buy 50mg tablets and dilute them to the required dose. This is much cheaper than going through Dicksons chemist which charge a steep prescription fee on top of the cost of the LDN.

If you go to the group at facebook there is lots of advice in the files facebook.com/groups/2000101...

Hope this helps.
