I have been eating slightly more varied diet over the last 2 weeks following my 4 weeks of full keto, and I have a few observations which others may find useful. As long as I was watching my portions, I continued to lose weight (I was still eating mostly keto).

I continued to skip my dinner, but a few times when I didn't, I noticed my weight creeping back up. I think the problem was that I was eating too many calories. I became attached to keto desserts I discovered and they are very calorific (full of nuts and coconut). Also, I became somewhat lax with the restrictions on the consumption of fruit and decaf (now with cream). Since some sort of sugar-fixated addiction is clearly part of my issue, I need to restric the consumption of these sweet treats (sweetened with chickory root fibre) to once or twice per week and I need to watch my portions.

Even if I feel hungry and decide to eat at dinnertime, I find that a very small portion is sufficient; if I eat more I feel uncomfortably full and don't enjoy my food as much.

Mindfulness seems to be the key. I almost ate an apricot last night, just because I saw it on the kitchen counter, I was not even hungry.

So far I managed to lose 6 pounds in total, so, on average, 1 pond per week. Given that I felt no sense of deprivation and I continue to be active and exercise, I am satisfied.

My only concern is that I am taking in a lot of saturated fat and I gather that some people may be more sensitive to it than others. What do knowledgeable people think about this issue?

You really need to shift focus to saturated fat and get it out of your head that it has nothing to do with heart disease and everything to do with optimum health.

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like you are find the right way for yourself.

I am not sure what "sensitive to saturated fat" means, so I can't help you there.

I do know I eat plenty myself.

I think I've read somewhere (I wish I could remember where, maybe one of Tim Spector's books), that some people's cholesterol shoots up when they eat too much saturated fat. Last time I checked, my bad cholesterol was on the upper boundary of normal, but my good cholesterol was high so overall I was fine. The saturated fat question, would seem to be the most controversial aspect of keto, so I was sure that people committed to this way of eating have done their research which is why I asked the question. Anecdotal evidence of someone's personal experience is also good to hear, as it's hard to work out what results of the research on both sides of the argument one should take more seriously.

Honestly, I have to eat something. I am not eating carbs, they made me fat and sick. I am not eating seed oils, they cannot be good for anyone. There is only so much olive oil a person can eat.

So I eat saturated fats. I haven't had a lipid panel down since I started so no personal experience.

But google Dave Feldman, and hyper-responders and see what you can find.

PS - I take to heart this study, bmj.com/content/353/bmj.i1246 where they cut saturated fat out of the diets, and got cholesterol down in the the study subjects, but more of them died than in the control group.

Thank you for this link. I had heard about this study, but never actually read it before - now I have! It shows how selectively results have been released in the past! (and possible still are)
