Let's See Where This Goes!

Ok, I had a FULL blood workup a couple of months ago and everything was optimal, including liver, kidneys, thyroid, blood etc. but I do have some inflammation issues, (if inflammation IS the cause), of a painful thumb joint, finger stiffness and sore knees.
I’m more or less where I want to be regarding weight loss and health. However, looking at my 19 year old son, who has the physique of a Greek god, I still have some fine tuning to do.
Of course, at my age, 71, I am under no illusion as to aesthetics, however there is no reason why I can’t look the best 71 year old self I can be.
So anyway, I’ve decided to try something fairly radical and stop messing about, and to that end I am going hard core ketogenic for a week, combined with fasting, and see where it takes me.
Initially I shall be having a cup of coffee with cream in the morning, then nothing except water until the evening when I’ll eat a tin of kippers and a little butter.
That’s it - and I’ll repeat for 7 days and post an update daily.

Current weight

164.7lb. Will update that in a week.

Carnivore! Or pescevore? Or maybe a fish fast? 🤔

I will watch this with interest.

Any reason it's kippers every day? I would mix it up. Do check the ingredients as to what dye they use (unless you are lucky enough to source natural ones)

Good luck

High fat omega 3 fish is about the best it gets for an anti-inflammatory food. Not concerned with the dye and it's only for a week anyway.

🤔

My understanding is that fish oil is so good for us because of the omega 6:omega 3 ratio. The healthy range is below 4:1 and it's optimal at 1:1,but typically because of all the seed oils it's more like 15:1. But your diet is 1:5. I have no idea if that is healthy or not.

It's only a week, so I am not suggesting you worry about it, it's just interesting to me.

Depends on what the fish have been canned with - I'm guessing spring water because I think MikePollard mentioned elsewhere he eats John West tinned kippers (which are also a favourite of mine) and they are usually in spring water - or at least they are at my supermarket.

Obviously if they are canned in sunflower or even olive oil the omega three profile is severely adversely affected, or quite adversely affected respectively.

I love tinned kippers! Although this is another thing there seems to be a shortage of in my area. I haven't been able to get any online or in person for a few weeks now. Perhaps I live near MikePollard and he has bought them all up..... 😂

The do come in sunflower oil as well as water. I drain the water for a long time then put them in the fridge. Kind of dries them out and gives a nicer mouth feel.

That sounds a novel approach - or novel to me anyway. I will try when they come back in stock where I live.

Fascinating. I hadn't really considered this. It's the ratio of the too oils that is important, and while the herrings have 2.4g of Ω-3, the sunflower oil would have 30g of Ω-6, and even the olive oil would have half that.

So all the benefit of the fish oil disappears when they can it in vegetable oil

It's canned in water, so no omega 6.

Yeah, and that would be a problem if you stuck to this diet long term. Linoleic acid is an essential fat, and you are getting practically none.

What about fluid intake? Sorry I am new to all this.
