Yayyyy! Target reached. πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

Well something to cheer me up, today I reached my target of 10st. I was 10st. 10 just before Christmas and back then I couldn't believe i would manage it. But thanks to LCHF and the support of you folks, I've done it. My BMI is 24.7. However, after looking in the mirror, I've decided to keep going for a while and see what happens.

Having said all that, I'm wondering about the wisdom of weight loss at the moment. Maybe we should be piling on the weight through consuming all the stockpiled food to get us through the possible lean times ahead.... 😜

Anyway, i'm going to spend this morning trying on clothes I haven't worn for years.

Stay safe everyone 😘

Good morning ChubbieChops. Good afternoon by you! You are an inspiration to me. I am 70 years young and have followed a LCHF way of eating for almost 35 years. After I had my last baby...36 years ago...I couldn't take off the last 20 lbs of baby weight. I found a very forward thinking Dr. who had done a great deal of study with diabetics and their struggle with weight loss. I am not a diabetic, but I have many in my family who are. I not only lost the baby weight, but went on to lose even more by following LCHF. I had many friends who thought I would die of a heart attack before my 50th birthday because of this way of eating ( I refuse to call it a diet). I have thrived on it! Many of these same friends are constantly amazed that at my age I have no wrinkles and I have a lot more energy then most in their 70's. I am not skinny, but have a decent figure for my age.

The reason I said that you are an inspiration, is with this pandemic, I was starting to turn to sweets and carbs to help me stay calm. There have been other times I have fallen off, but always got back on. Yes, even after 35 years of following LCHF, I haven't lost that voice in my head that says all of the sweets and breads will calm me. Your post was just what I needed to reset my thinking!

Thank you

ChubbieChops in reply to jjf255

Bless you, thank you for those kind words and I'm glad you found my post encouraging. I found your post encouraging too. I have had people say the same thing - you're cholesterol must be really high, you gonna die!! Those comments also raised doubts in my head again. Hearing that you have kept the weight off for so long is also reassuring.

However, because I am feeling so well, don't have cravings and now have a supposedly healthy BMI, I am carrying on. As you say, it doesn't feel like a diet, it is a new way of eating. I'm lucky, I don't crave bread as I realised at the beginning that it bloats me so I don't miss it. What I miss is chocolate, and I now allow myself an occasional square of dark chocolate and most of the time that does the trick.

Keep the faith!! Don't allow those naughty carbs to win. I'm planning to shock my friends and family when I see them again, after this awful disease is over, by how well I look. Take care and keep safe xx

Still haven't made any! I'm self isolating so hubby is shopping. When I asked him to ask the butcher for bones, he looked at me as if I was mad.

Hubby, "But we don't have a dog!"

Me, "It's for me!"

Hubby, "You want to eat bones??"

I tried to explain about bone broth but he left, shaking his head

How are you feeling now?

OilpainterUS profile image
OilpainterUS in reply to ChubbieChops

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Too funny, CC!

I'm still trying to figure out Subtle_badgers statement in the bone broth thread that she hasn't decided if she's eating her bone broth used bones. That would be "impressive". Would you grind them into powder to use in power shakes? ( She could survive a hike to Everest! What a rockstar!)

TheAwfulToad profile image
TheAwfulToadAmbassador

Awesome! As the Badger said ... you're going to have to change your name, aren't you?

Frankly, I reckon if this all goes pearshaped, we'll all end up eating LCHF regardless, ie., weeds from the hedgerow and ... hmm, wonder what badgers taste like? :)

ChubbieChops profile image
ChubbieChops in reply to TheAwfulToad

Probably chicken! Hmm, I better stop using dock leaves as toilet paper 😜

TheAwfulToad profile image
TheAwfulToadAmbassador in reply to ChubbieChops

yup, you might be glad of them in their pristine state!

Fun fact: they are, apparently, edible. Dock leaves. I mean. Not badgers. Although I do recall reading something by Clarissa Dickson Wright about badger hams being made not so long ago in England ...

ChubbieChops profile image
ChubbieChops in reply to TheAwfulToad

Have a great crop of nettles too. My son had arranged for us to go on a foraging course for my birthday in May. That would have been so helpful now.

A lot of pheasants come in the garden from the field next door. Tempting!

Subtle_badger profile image
Subtle_badger in reply to TheAwfulToad

Apparently it tastes like bear.

So that helps.

I expect it tastes like rhino.

Have you eaten Rhino???? Wow! Subt le_badger, you could survive a journey to Everest eating your caught game!

Subtle_badger profile image
Subtle_badger in reply to OilpainterUS

No, I haven't eaten eaten rhino. I was trying to think of the most exotic thing I could.

Generally avoid eating endangered animals, except one time I did eat starry sturgeon because it was very dead and refusing it would have been awkward.

I have never even eaten bear!

πŸ˜‚ You crack me up! I'd love to your face in the sturgeon incident!

OilpainterUS profile image
OilpainterUS in reply to TheAwfulToad

I have eaten bear, TheAwfulToad. It's rather like horse or moose, maybe a bit more "gamey" than horse.

OilpainterUS profile image
OilpainterUS in reply to TheAwfulToad

Bear tastes a bit gamey...but has consistency like bison. I suppose the meat would vary according to their locale. In my area, they would feast on berries, fish, the occasional people.

Thinking about a dip in the pool today! At the very least, some time in the sun with my bud, Dave, will be fun. Come on over!

Yes! Loving the peace here as well. Happy to hear you are having a fine morning! Gearing up for your climb? How many steps today?

ChubbieChops profile image
ChubbieChops in reply to OilpainterUS

No :( Hubby is doing the shopping and he didn't feel comfortable with asking for bones!! We had a discussion about not having a dog! Then he said, "Well you don't know where those bones have come from." For an intelligent man, he can be very dumb! I said, "From the same carcases as the meat!!" But he still wouldn't ask for them - grrr

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ That's so funny! MEN! They get in their own way! And, ours! πŸ˜‚

Subtle_badger profile image
Subtle_badger in reply to OilpainterUS

Just catching up on my replies.

I climbed 450 steps today! I may yet get some muscles!

Swimming! Oh, that would be nice. Did you? I wonder when I can do that again.

OilpainterUS profile image
OilpainterUS in reply to Subtle_badger

It was too cold here to swim, even to lay out! Finally, ready to get in the water and it's brisk! Can't complain, tho, it's always gorgeous here. (Until june, that is! πŸ˜…)

Dave and I are taking sketch pads out to a new site I discovered recently. It's a rural site that has charming older farm buildings with palm trees against the mountain backdrop. I can work with that for a plein aire painting.

I hope you get into the water soon, Badger!

Well done in the steps! 450 is impressive.πŸ˜‰! Muscles will definitely come. How's the altitude? πŸ˜‚

I have 14 steps to my loft on a circular staircase - this should count double for the treachery! And, there's 16 coming up to my condo! By the time I add up my trips with Brexit, 3 odd times I go upstairs (x2! πŸ˜…), I'd have a fair bit! I'm going to stop feeling guilty!

Now, when does The English Channel crossing expedition start? πŸ˜‚

ChubbieChops profile image
ChubbieChops in reply to OilpainterUS

I sea swim with a bunch of mates but we don't normally start until June. They're talking about starting sooner, keeping a safe distance apart. I can't breathe in such cold water though due to asthma

Subtle_badger profile image
Subtle_badger in reply to ChubbieChops

Oh, asthma! I have it, but so mildly my ventolin is six months expired, and barely touched. Stay away from everyone for now!!

I come from warmer climes, and have never taken to swimming in the UK. But now I can't, I miss it.

My mother told me about polio epidemics. The thing that really struck me was when she told me swimming pools were closed. That was when I understood how serious it was.

ChubbieChops profile image
ChubbieChops in reply to Subtle_badger

My asthma is also mild but I'm taking no chances. And now the swimming pools are closed again...

Subtle_badger profile image
Subtle_badger in reply to ChubbieChops

Oh, yeah. This is a totally different scale. This is war.

OilpainterUS profile image
OilpainterUS in reply to ChubbieChops

Sea swimming is so much better (and harder) than a pool. I envy you the sea. Don't go in too early, indeed. Perhaps just going and being on the beach would be nice? Soak up the vitamin d?

ChubbieChops profile image
ChubbieChops in reply to OilpainterUS

We're not supposed to make unnecessary journeys and it's an hour now for me to get to the sea. So for now I'm happy to take my exercise working in the garden (there is a lot of work to be done!) and going for occasional brisk walks. We're on the edge of a small town so we're able to walk in the countryside and certainly everyone we meet is keeping their distance

OilpainterUS profile image
OilpainterUS in reply to ChubbieChops

Happy you are able to get out for walks. That's just one advantage of living in a small town.

I envy you your garden. That must be very satisfying. I can't wait to get home and start mine. Do you do vegetable and flower?

Arizona set forth the Settle In Place action today. Even more is shut down. The city is taking a break.

Take care gardening!

ChubbieChops profile image
ChubbieChops in reply to OilpainterUS

The house and garden were brand new last summer so we're still creating it. So at the moment, there are only a couple of small flowerbeds but today I planted up a herb garden. So if things get tough in the months to come, we can eat herbs!!

OilpainterUS profile image
OilpainterUS in reply to ChubbieChops

Perfect for your bones! πŸ˜‰

I thought of you yesterday when I bought soup bones. For what you get, they are not cheap! πŸ˜…. Tell hubby you're fortunate the butcher gives them to you!

Congrats on the new house. I'm sure you're having fun with it. The process of getting it just right can take a few years but is so worth it. Gardens are such an important part of a home. I hope we see your progress. 😊

ChubbieChops profile image
ChubbieChops in reply to OilpainterUS

Our butcher is now delivering meat - yayyy. You're right, we are doing some indoor sorting when we're too tired to continue working outside but we've had lovely weather since C19 kept us at home so the indoors has taken a back seat for the moment. I have been taking before pictures but due to a lack of plants, there are no after pics yet!

OilpainterUS profile image

What a lovely day. Social distancing is less of a challenge in bigger countries.

OilpainterUS profile image
OilpainterUS in reply to Subtle_badger

Agreed, Badger. There's a lot of open space in the US making it easier to get out.

I live near a large city park in the US, South Mountain. It has 50 miles of mountain hiking trails. People are SD for the most part in the trails. I paint there often.

The Apache Trail is another favourite painting place of mine:

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apa...

I'm planning to go there soon, perhaps boondocking with my Eriba Puck.

As much as I enjoy Arizona, my soul belongs in the UK. I love it there so much. The next trip is going to include The Lake District. It looks enchanting!

Yes. I had come home from wearing it out to a dinner party when I took that photo.

Most of the conversation was about CV19 and whether kissing hello was advisable, so I don't know when I will next have the opportunity to wear it.

Interesting about your birthmark. I will take a photo of the pendant sometime so you can compare.

ChubbieChops profile image
ChubbieChops in reply to Scythe

I had managed to get my weight down to 10st 5 this time last year (from 10st 13) following a Slimming World diet plan but then I got stuck. I wanted to get the weight off as I had a knee replacement in April, but following that, due to boredom and lack of mobility for a few weeks, I went back up to 10st 10. I stayed around that weight until just before Christmas. That was when I found this forum and switched to LCHF. I tried IF, but I do like breakfast. I got stuck again at 10st 5 about a month ago. The trouble was that because I could eat butter and cream, I did - lots!! So I relaxed the keto - started putting some carrot or beans into some meals as well as the low carb veg. Stopped having rich meals, have an occasional piece of fruit and a square of dark chocolate on an evening occasionally and that's got me down to 10st. I'm going to keep going like this as I'm enjoying meals much more now and I'll see how it goes. I'd love to get below 10st as I haven't been there since I got married 37 years ago! I will give IF a go for health reasons when I feel ready for it but for now I only eat when I'm hungry so I'm hoping IF will evolve from that. Good luck to you ☺

I hope it helps. I did cook SW recipes and followed their guidelines, but in comparison to LCHF meals, they couldn't be described as delicious and certainly weren't satiating. Good luck xx

Heard a fascinating thing on the radio yesterday by a statistical group which is advising the government. So if you're likely to die in the next year, do NOT go out!! Go ahead and rant! I love your rants 😷

Actually, I have a gorgeous royal blue wool suit - vintage, likely from the 60's I found in NYC. The jacket is to the hip, has 3/4 length sleeves and both hems have a beautiful, luxurious white fox trim. The straight skirt was clearly made for someone with no hips! I can't get it on. There's a decent amount of fabric to work with if I'm clever and can find a chic fabric to work.

It would be great fun to restyle clothes here for people like you celebrating your loss.
