Recently diagnosed with depression..

Hi I've recently been diagnosed with depression about 6 weeks ago after suddenly losing my brother in September last year, and work becoming so stressful it took such a toll I couldn't take much more. I finally went to the doctors after feeling down, crying, not wanting to see people and hadn't felt myself in such a long time. He prescribed me Setraline 50mg. Luckily side affects were minimal (chest cold, nose bleed, mild insomnia, tiredness).

I've found the tablets really helpful after about 28 days, however the past two days I've been put on a different brand and am experiencing some horrible feelings and feel like I'm being set back? Has anyone experienced this or similar and how long has setraline taken to work for you if you've been prescribed it? Was wondering as I'm back at work now after being signed off and finding it difficult.

Any help or advise would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hiya, thank you was a terrible shock, still is :(. Never had depression before or been on any medication this is my first time. I was put on sertraline and was fine for a month then picked up my repeat was given a different brand, think that's what gave me the thoughts it only lasted a day and I think it was partly cause of my first day back at work after 5 weeks off and all new staff! I've felt ok since though. Reading everyone's posts and seeing people go through similar helps! Thanks for the advise hope your ok! X

Hi,

I've only been on sertraline a couple of weeks and I have experienced quite a few side effects, the worst being a really horrible vivid nightmare that was so dark I woke up in cold sweats, shaking and crying. The best thing is to tell your GP and they'll decide what to do from there. I'm so sorry to hear about your brother and I can only imagine how much of a shock it was, but it sounds like you are doing really well and taking a lot of massive steps which is great to hear, it is really hard to readjust to normal life again after a traumatic event and you are bound to still have some bad days and some unwelcome thoughts, just try not to be too hard on yourself about it and the fact that you keep getting up everyday and getting on with your life as best as you can is such an achievement.

Keep going and take care x
