Self harm. Help me please.

Hi, this is my first time on here and I don't know if anyone will read this but I need help. About two weeks ago I started to self harm. I scratched the inside of my arm near my elbow with a pair of scissors. Daily I've been making about 20 marks but one day it got that bad that I made about 40 marks. On Thursday it was a week I've stayed clean. The first week staying clean was fine but the second week so far (which only started like 3 days ago) is absolutely terrible and really hard. For about 2 or 3 days my arm where I scratched my arm was/is itchy and sore. I don't know what to do. I really want to do it again but I'm trying not to but it's really hard.

Hello, I'm sorry to hear your doing this, it sayes to me your going through a difficult time and that's why your doing this as a cry for help. What ever your going through you need to address it by talking or writing it down, be it either with someone you know or trust or may be call the Samaritans they are fantastic. Making a visit to your doctor could help also. Well done for coming on here and taking the first step to recovery.

Just a suggestion but try running this tires your body and mind and might help x

I have some understanding of how you might be feeling as I done this at times when I have been very anxious or depressed. The Best person to talk to first is really your GP as they can do a full assessment. This may sound daunting but they deal with the whole body and that includes the mind. You can always take someone in with you for support, just explain to the receptionist what you would prefer to do or arrange a telephone conversation with your GP or practice.

There are also loads of places you can get support online. A brilliant place to get support and air your feelings is on a site called 'Elefriends' run by the Charity 'Mind' where you can say as little or as much as you wan't, and talk to others who understand what you are going through.. Hope this is helpful.

hi there, you've done the right choice coming here. you need to see the GP as soon as. cuts from self harming can go infectious if left untreated and you need to tell them what you're going through. It the bravest thing you can do and when you do the support will start to get back you on the right track. everything will be treated confidentially and nothing will be disclosed. The GP will do an initial assessment which will be a questionnaire and this will give them an idea on what level of treatment and support to give you and the level of depression you might have. the other advice given is very good starting point and the charities are there to listen and support you.

I would like to go to my GP but that means my parents will find out and they don't know and I want to keep it that way but thank you :)

I completely understand. Maybe you don't want them to know because they might worry or be angry but if your parents see your marks by accident then they will ask you questions and will want to know. they are there to want the best for you as you are their world of happiness. out of your parents do you trust someone the most and feel confident to confine to them?

Another way can be if you have an trusting aunt who you can talk to and she can come with you to the GP or talk to your parents if you feel that would be better.

we can only give you options that are in the best interest of your welfare and you know we are here to support you :)

Don't know if this is any help, but here is some info on confidentiality

I have never self harmed but I understand that leads you to do it. You really need to consult a professional about this. You may have depression or some type of mental disorder. I'm glad you found a place to vent online but you really really need to get help from someone. This thought process of wanting to self harm can lead to suicide. Before it can get that far you really need to get help. I'm really sorry that you are going through this. Just know that you are not alone. A lot of people struggle with self harming. :( if you ever need to talk to someone. I'm here. My email is chelsieshay@gmail.com. Anytime!
