newly diagnosed and learning so much! It is comforting to connect to other purples out there. I don't know anyone with ITP. My platelets are in the mid 30's and I am not being treated. I am not having bleeding at this level. Guess the platelets I do have are very talented LOL!

Welcome! I like your sense of humor:) My platelets were as low as 38 and I have had this for about 7 years and never been treated. As long as you aren't bleeding and can function, go by that instead of numbers. As a matter of fact, I have had 2 tooth extractions and clotted just fine with no intervention for platelets. Bruising yes, here and there arms and legs, but other than that..doing well. Sounds like you are handling very well, keep in touch!

Hi janebrandi. I was also diagnosed Itp (9 years ago) and have, thankfully, not needed treatment. My levels usually 50-70. I do get bruising sometimes and am more aware of my diet (for me caffeine drinks caused a dip). My doc says that I prob make the right amount of platelets but my body destroys them too early. She said the up side is that the platelets I do have are young and fresh (i.e. More efficient) so I guess that's a good thing. It's a mysterious illness and I have received a lot of good information reading the posts here. I also do not know anyone with this condition so this is a good place to share experiences.

Wishing your continued wellness despite the Itp :)

Caffeine? My platelets like to hang around the 5 mark. I haven't linked caffiene yet but will try cutting it. Thanks.

Welcome,

The doctors definitely look at all factors when deciding to treat. As long as your daily life is not being affected too much they will not treat. My daughter who has ITP gets very tired and emotional, she gets treated in her 30's because it was really affecting her grades and behavior at school. If you are very new to this you are still in the window for acute ITP. This means it could go away and you will never have to worry again.
