ITP & High Blood Pressure

Hi,

I was diagnosed with ITP in 2007 and now I have been advised by my doctor to take Ramipril because of High Blood Pressure. Anyone in a similar situation? What has your experience been?

Is your high blood pressure caused by ITP treatment?

I was diagnosed with hypertension during my last relapse and intuitively feel there might be a link though there's no clinical evidence for this happening in ITP patients. I am under treatment for this, candesartan and amlodipine

I was advised to start taking blood pressure tablet this year but I was diagnosed with ITP in 2007

Hi I had high blood pressure a few years before being diagnosed with ITP and am on three different meds for it, (candesarten, doxazosin and bendrofluemethzide) it has stayed stable ever since. (the blood pressure not the ITP)

Hi Rafiq

I had high blood pressure about a year before being diagnosed with ITP (July)

I'm also on ramipril tho only 5mgs. Since taking 80mgs of prednisone I've started feeling very dizzy so doctor has increased my ramipril 2.5mgs to be taken after lunch, tho this doesn't help the dizziness so I don't always take it.

How much have they given you?

Hi Lin6,

Thanks for your communication. I am only on 1.25mg but I feel very dizzy and unwell. I will my doctor this week to try an understand what's happening.

I was diagnosed with ITP & crazy high BP in June. It took me over a month to start feeling less dizzy & tired from medication. I am/was on Losartan Pot., Hydralazine, Metoprolol, HTZ, Amlodipine Besylate. My doctor put me in the hospital for 5 days with the combo of high BP & 8000 platelet count.

I went to see my doctor last week and my blood pressure is low. I have had ITP for many years.

Hi Lin,

Thanks for your post. As a result of a bleeding incidence and platelets dropping to six the medics have taken me off Ramipril. I am told it is not an appropriate drug for ITP sufferers. In two days time, I will have another count and haematology will decide whether to intervene if it falls further.

Yes i was too suffering from High blood pressure its because you are taking steroids. Dont take steroids. I am having homeopathic medicine. And now my paltelets counts increased from 44000 to 1,14,000.

Has your Doctor changed your Blood pressure meds if so has your blood count gone up??

Hi Lin,

I have been taken off all blood pressure tablets as luckily my blood pressure has now gone down to normal range. My blood pressure shot up as a result of a couple of operations in the summer. As I felt quite ill with the tablets, I was advised to stop taking them and regular monitoring suggest that do not need to go back on them.

I'm so pleased for you, iv had mine increased by 2.5mg as iv put a stone on with the steroids but they have been reduced to 5mgs a day now, so fingers crossed once off prednisone the weight will drop and will be off all meds.

I was born with ITP. I had no immune system and spent the first four years of my life in an antibacterial environment. When I was 4 they removed my spleen and despite being a hemophiliac I lived through the operation. I was then given a series of very painful animal Gama shots to rebuild my immune system. When I became an adult I developed sever hypertension which I struggle with today at 55. Off my medication I am 220/190 on my medication I am 160/110 on my medication with Beet Juice 140/90. I suspect my ITP is the cause.
