Yes. Our eldest has ITP and we have 2 other younger children now who are perfectly normal. It is not inherited so other children no more likely to get it than any other person in population.

My eldest daughter (almost 11) has ITP and yet my other 2 are perfectly healthy. As far as I am aware it is not genetic at all. She is also the only one of the 3 who suffers from a sever peanut allergy and is asthmatic. I am currently trying to source an alternate paediatric haematologists in South Africa if anybody can assist? I haven't had much joy googling, and I really want a second opinion. If anybody can help or advise - please do!!

Hi my eldest (23) was diagnosed in April 2011 with ITP , my youngest (18) is fine and doesn't have it. ITP is not hereditory and it seems it can happen to anyone. Hope this helps

My son (5) has ITP. My daughter (3) has a different auto-immune disease that affects her kidney function. From what I understand there is no genetic component to this disease but sometimes various autoimmune disease do run in families.

My son has been diagnosed with ITP when he was just 1year old, now he is 3 and 4months. We are having routine check-up every 3 months and his platelet counts gradually going up, now he has 75K machine count from 9K. Im on my 6th week with my second and wondering if it will be the same as my firstborn. Google search led me to this thread. Thank you for posting the question Maggie, the replies to this thread gives me encouragement and hope.
