Last January my Husband and I were quoted £1100 for two weeks cover for Tenerife due to our combined pre exsisting medical conditions.

We then went on to Martin Lewis website and we we Got a quote from EHICPLUS Ins. An annual policy covering all our pre-exsisting conditions for £168.00. that was including cruise cover. With EHICPLUS you must use your EHIC card not private medical centeres and you are covered anywhere in Europe that your EHIC covers. Plus for anyone covered by most insurers by getting treatment on your EHIC you dont have to pay any excess charges.

Then we found a translation card for any of the european countries covered that states you require to be treated on your EHIC that was from EHTC-LTD.CO.UK so we are able to let them understand our needs.

Hi Babsfox. Very interesting. Something which should be published by the ITP Support in the Platelet. I also have had no problems, travel extensively from time to time on business all over, and used P.J.Hayman & Co, Rowlands Cross, Hampshire. Found their cover excellent, worldwide with a similar premium to your quote.

Hi. My son was going to NZ and no-one would give him insurance, it was a nightmare. We eventually got a quote for health insurance in NZ but they had to get the underwriters to add a clause because of the ITP, the quote went through the roof and his ITP wasn't covered. I asked the insurance if he got ran over by a car is he covered, they said yes, I asked if he had a brain bleed because he sustained a knock to the head off the car is he covered? NO. Because his ITP he is prone to bleeds and nothing to do with his ITP is covered.it was a farce. Luckily for my son the UK and NZ hold a reciprocal agreement so he can go to a public hospital and get treatment free. Good luck babsfox cos I spent weeks hunting for elusive travel insurance. X

For useful information about travel insurance you can email ITP Support Association HQ on info@itpsupport.org.uk. I actually have World wide annual travel insurance included with my bank current account package and they continue to cover me. I have to contact them annually and they ask me about my current ITP situation then issue me with a covering letter confirming that they are able to continue my insurance. I do not have any other medical history or conditions. They do charge a fee of £36 to cover admin but I imagine that will increase when I contact them later this year when my cover is due for renewal.

Hi Babs

I was interested in your comment about the Translation cards and thought I would take a look at ehtc-ltd.co.uk. I bought two translation cards and found they have a card for each EU country. After the recent news about EHIC in Spain and Greece I thought I would not leave to chance getting my message across about using my EHIC card.

Thanks for the info and link.
