Looking for way to ease arthritis.

I am trying to find new ways to exercise. I have bursitis and arthritis and most exercise is painful. I do attend an aqua arthritis class that really helps but I am looking to add a bit more than that.

I find the key to exercising with painful conditions is to start gradually and build up slowly. You don't need to completely avoid pain altogether, however a pretty good general rule is that any pain should have fully settled within 24 hours of exercise - we don't want the pain to be worsening each time you exercise. If you do this, and are consistent with the exercise, your body will adapt and you'll gradually be able to do more and more. Low impact exercises are good for arthritis. Is the bursitis around your hip? Good luck, let us know how you get on!

The programme in iPrescribe Exercise will give you a good graduated aerobic program. Low impact exercise such a static cycling and other gym based exercises as well as walking can be useful additions. Strengthening exercises are also helpful. The "Library" section in the iPrescribe Exercise gives a lot of information on arthritis (look in the "more" tab at the bottom). Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.
