Hi all. We have been ttc for two years. We have had loads of tests with gyne now we have been referred to the fertility clinic. I’ve a low ovarian reserve and my husbands sperm’s count was really poor. They said the wait is about three months. I’m nervous as I don’t know what to expect next. Can anyone give any info?

Thanks 😊

Hi there. I'm sorry you're facing this. Be sure, your fertility expert will want you to pass LOADS of tests to evaluate your fertility. If not then at the first appointment the doctor reviews your medical history; assesses your general health; arranges initial tests and investigations for you and your partner. You should bring a doctor’s referral from a GP (valid for 12 months) or specialist gynaecologist or obstetrician (valid for 3 months). Depending on the level of testing already performed, the fertility specialist may order further pathology tests. For men, a blood test for hepatitis B and C, HIV and semen analysis are all routinely conducted. Pre-pregnancy screening for some genetic conditions such as cystic fibrosis is available too. Other diagnostic tests may include some or all of the following:

Rubella immunity (German measles), Chicken pox, Hepatitis B and C, HIV, Full blood count, checking your blood group, thyroid status and Current pap smear (within last 2 years). Vaginal ultrasound to check for fibroids, polyps, ovarian cysts, and to act as a ‘baseline’ for reference during your treatment.

Tests for men usually include: HIV, Hepatitis B and C. Semen analysis to check for antibodies and any possible infection. Once they have the results of these tests, the fertility specialist will meet with you again to explain in detail your recommended treatment plan.

Hope this helps. GL! Hugs.

Oh luv, I know the hardle you're going through. Try to get ready for your first appointment.

Provide details about your attempts to get pregnant. Write down details about when you started ttc. How often you've had intercourse, especially around the time of ovulation.

Bring your key medical information. Include any other medical conditions you or your partner has. Also information about any previous infertility evaluations or treatments.

Make a list of any medications, vitamins, herbs or other supplements you take. Include the doses and how often you take them.

Make a list of questions to ask your doctor. List the most important questions first in case time runs short.

For infertility, some basic questions to ask your doctor include:

What are the possible reasons we haven't yet conceived?

What kinds of tests do we need?

What treatment do you recommend trying first?

What side effects are associated with the treatment you're recommending? What is the likelihood of conceiving multiple babies with the treatment you're recommending? For how many cycles will we try this treatment?

If the first treatment doesn't work, what will you recommend trying next?

Are there any long-term complications associated with this or other infertility treatments?

Don't hesitate to ask your doctor to repeat information or to ask follow-up questions!!

Stay well, luv, hope you're feeling ok.

Hi, how are you doing? Came here for updates. And to add a couple of things. To prepare for your appointment it's also helpful to chart your menstrual cycles and associated symptoms for a few months. On a calendar or an electronic device, record when your period starts and stops. And how your cervical mucus looks. Make note of days when you and your partner have intercourse. Make a list of any medications, vitamins, herbs or other supplements you take. Include the doses and how often you take them.

Bring previous medical records. Your doctor will want to know what tests you've had and what treatments you've already tried.

Bring electronic device with you. You may receive a lot of information at your visit. So it can be difficult to remember. Think about what questions you'll ask. List the most important questions first to be sure that they get answered in case time flies during your visit. Do drop a line soon. Hugs xx

Hi, I understand your concerns, We were going egg donation route. So before the initial consultation the clinic sent us the list of required documents. Among them: transvaginal and breast ultrasound check results, chest x-ray for both, dr's certificate that I'm healthy enough to carry out a baby and that pregnancy is not prohibited for me, sperm count. Then all the further evaluations during the consultation itself. Could you, please, update??
