Hi folks

Looking for some help please! Iv just started on my treatment (well I'm taking the pill) I'm on short protocol and due to start injections in 2 weeks. I'm trying to get as prepared as possible so that I know iv done everything possible to give this the best chance. Iv read that it's advisable to have a diet high in protein for stunning stage and also high fat dairy???? I have unexplained infertility and looking at my diet in the past I get very little protein and dairy as iv been trying to cut back on food too loose weight - anyone any tips on best nutrition during each stage? Thanks in advance x

Not long now until you start :-)

I was told:

No caffeine/alcohol

Low sugar intake

Low carb, high protein

2 litres of water a day

My clinic used to advise 1 litre of milk a day too, but they now say part of your daily diet in drinks, cereals etc.

Avoid snacking inbetween main meals as it's got something to do with your body trying to break the snacking down when it should be concentrating on growing your follicles.

They said if you need to snack then seeds or nuts are ok.

I haven't drunk milk on its own for years, so I had some milkshakes, yoghurts and cheese on most days.

Mainly stuck to fish, meat, veg and fruit, but did have some carbs as you still have to be happy in yourself whilst you are going through the treatment!

I also got some Danio yoghurts and Upbeat drinks as they are high in protein :-)

Off the top of my head, the only other thing I did during stimming was had a hot water bottle on my belly in the evening as warmth is meant to be good for the follicles before collection.

Good luck x

Hi, my clinic had a seminar & part of that was a health dietician. In a nut shell her advise was if your grandparents couldn't eat it then don't eat it (there words not mine). ie no processed meals, no skimmed milk etc. They said stews & the good old meat & veg, so lots of veg. Good luck xx

i would honestly say just eat normally but sensibly.. you can get too worried/obsessed and we have enough to worry about through this. Obviously reducing fat/sugar (in moderation) is good sense and so is no caffeine and alcohol but I would just eat a balance a CHO/Protein and vits and minerals with fruit as snacks if you are hungry..

During the ICSI/IVF treatment I was advised to drink 1 litre of semi skimmed milk per day, which was tricky as I really don't like milk. I didn't want to gain weight so I swapped my usual breakfast for a banana smoothie (milk and frozen banana done in the blender). I also drank milky decaf coffee plus a milky hot chocolate in the evening.

Usual dietary advice no alcohol, sensible balanced diet.
