Sorry, this might be off topic, but has anyone else experienced this?

When I open the disc tray of my DVD player or CD player and leave it open for a prolonged period of time, I get a painful sensation in my eye (usually in one eye, sometimes in both) which is sometimes accompanied by a headache. Has anyone else experienced this? What might it be caused by? Might it be serious?

I just tried with no success. The optical laser is in either the drawer that you place the dvd or inside the machine. In either case the laser is off when the drawer is out and I'm pretty sure that this is a safety measure. So I have no idea. Sorry.

OK, I suspected that the laser had something to do with it, but I didn't know that when I open the disc tray, that the laser turns off. I thought it stayed on. I shall have to investigate further.

There's one way that you can find out if that's the problem, and that's to leave it open again, either right before you leave the house for several hours, or make sure that you are not in the room where the drive is. Yes, it does mean risking another bit of eye pain or headache, but what else can I tell you?
