Help with husband who has diabetes but is in denial

my husband has diabetes, untreated, except for the piddly diet changes he’s made that he thinks will reverse the condition. Many years ago his numbers were high, they are higher now, 6.8 with a 148 glucose level, and I managed to get him to follow a strict diet and exercise plan which resulted in a reduction in his numbers, bringing them down below pre diabetic numbers but he got lazy and gained back the thirty pounds he lost plus more and now he’s worse than he was before. Now he’s not exercising and has attempted to eat “better” but I see what he eats and he’s never going to lower his numbers the way he’s doing it. The doctor has been told all this by me and ordered him some medicine but he doesn’t want to take it, claiming he can manage it with his diet alone but I’m afraid he might have heart issues or a stroke leaving him with more problems. At least if that happens he will have to listen to the doctor I suppose. He’s 65 and overweight so I could use some advice please. He also has a brain injury sustained from being hit by a drunk driver 24 years ago which makes it even harder to reason with him. Anything I try to suggest he just gets mad and pushes me away so now I’m just leaving him alone and praying for him to come to his senses before it’s too late. The sad thing is, is that he has a very good friend who has diabetes and has had 3 heart attacks and lost a toe and has to take insulin. I wish he’d care more about not getting to that point himself. Thanks Thanks

Well I am soon to turn 70,have been a diabetic for over 35 yrs. I have been on low carb diet and some exercise. I take a pill once a day for diabetes, used to take insulin but have been taken off after changing drs for liver issues. I am know dr but any type of small amount of diet and mild exercise should help him feel better. Diabetes can be controlled so much better these days. More info sought just let us know!
