Over 100,000 people pass through critical care units in the United Kingdom each year. Though we're familiar with terms from the news such as being on life support, being in a critical condition or admitted to intensive care what's less well known is the legacy of critical illness and the difficulties that survivors and their families can face.

Unlike other illness groups, as soon as intensive care patients are no longer critical, they're discharged to another part of the hospital. We're still far from being better and when we get there we're unlikely to see another critical care patient. This isolation from those like us makes dealing with the consequences of critical illness harder but the ICUsteps Critical Care Community provides the opportunity to reach others who do understand.

Share your thoughts, experience and questions with others like you.

I am not the same person I was last year. What happened to me has me paranoid, sad and suffering now from PTSD. super intense and well not myself at all.

I had good hospital care but after that no one mentioned what could have happened to me to change my sleep pattern or my different reaction to life than before. I just want to sleep!!!!
