Ino I use to want answers but either way wouldn't of mattered I would of still felt the same. And also for some reason me health has lappesed some as well personally I think part of it ha to do with stressing and getting anshous and worked up is a big stemming point.

Apart from my own subjective understanding of the delirium/ nightmares I experienced- I found this pdf really useful.

What I was advised to do if these ‘dreams’ carried on after discharge from hospital or for any length of time, that I should seek medical advice - initially through GP.

I’m not medically trained but I understand the mechanism of traumatic memory very slightly. Most importantly these memories are stored in a different area of the brain which does not process them in the ‘normal’ fashion. It means that SOME people cannot just get over trauma. Flash backs are not normal. Best of luck finding suitable help

From my experience working with patients recovering from critical illness you seem to be describing post traumatic stress disorder. You need to see your GP and ask for a referral to a therapist who specialises in trauma. There will be a long waiting time unfortunately so if you can afford it I would look for a private therapist.

I hope this short programme will help you. It’s by a former ICU patient and trustee of ICU Steps. It helped me understand what my brother experienced. I witnessed him going through this and it was traumatic for me as he was not the person I knew and loved. I visited him every day in ICU and CCU. It’s described here by doctors too who explain they are still learning about the effects of sepsis on the brain. They don’t fully understand yet.

I should also say the delerium and nightmares were part of his ICU experience and luckily he doesn’t remember some of it. It took me a long time to get over the trauma. It will be 2 years this Christmas. I hope this helps and I hope you go on to feel better as time passes. Best wishes.
