Advise needed in relation to my nan

My poor nana is 76 and was admitted to hospital last week with a chest infection, they placed her on antibiotics but the infection got worse and she now has pneumonia. The doctors moved her to intensive care and placed her into an induced coma. She is usually so fit and healthy, she usually goes out in her local town Monday-Saturday and I’m just in so much shock. I haven’t been to see her since she has been in intensive care as I’m just too frightened and heartbroken and I don’t want to her see her like that, however on the other hand I want to be there for her and don’t want to regret anything I dont do. I’m still quite confused as to what the next steps from the hospital will be from now also?

I would be very greateful for any advise from anybody that has been in this situation.

Thank you,

Beth

Many of us crucify ourselves between two thieves - regret for the past and fear of the future.

It is hard to know what will follow because it really depends on a person and their reaction to the situation. My advice is to go see you grandma no matter how hard this is for you. Seeing your loved one being sick at ICU can be heartbreaking, but you can also help the person with your presence. Most people hate hospitals and do not feel good there, especially if a family member is in serious situation. My first days visiting my dad at ICU were terrible-my heart was racing, I was scared, feeling sick, weak and after some time there I felt I was going to collapse. 50+ days later I am dealing with it better and I would not want to miss a day.
