Hi Hidden - when I contracted sepsis back in December 2012 I awoke 5 weeks later to find I was hooked up to a catheter , however I was too ill to care . It remained part of me for 3 months + as I could not move out of my hospital bed , when I returned home I had to stay at our local hospital for 17 days , the Nurse who took out the catheter just so happened to be a friend of my wife , I thought it would be embarrassing but she covered me up with a towel and removed it as gently as possible , I felt a bit of a sensation and that was it , no pain whatsoever , certainly no pain while it was inside me , however I wasn't conscious when it was inserted so cannot comment on that procedure - don't worry , you'll be fine .

Ive had catheters inserted and removed more times than I can remember. It’s uncomfortable having them fitted and a weird sensation, but they using numbing and lubricating gel so I didn’t find it too bad.
