Copd and ventilator

My grandma who is on ventilator from past 7days,and is a patient of copd due to which she is having co2 build up and is not able to wean off completely,doctors are putting her off from ventilator tom morning..I want to know what are the chances of recovering if we go for tracheostomy on her!pls advice

Morning Ank9 - I can't answer your question but would say that this time last year I was in ICU on a ventilator and couldn't wean off it so after 17 days had a tracheostomy from which I was successfully weaned about 10 days later and I'm now recovered. I'm 76 and had pneumonia followed by Guiiain Barre Syndrome, so a different experience from your Grandma but I hope someone else will respond to your post with knowledge and experience of COPD.
