My grandmother went into icu on a respirator last tuesday and now is having organ failure they are telling us we are going to be taking her off the respirator in 2 days and keep her comfortable and dont think she will be long. They say if we keep her on the respirator its just prolonging it and she will live her life in a long term nursing facility on a feeding tube. Cant people come back from it? Its only been a week and it feels like they are giving up?

I came back from MOF, severe ARDS and a multitude of other problems - my family were told that there was little hope. At the point that they were going to move me to a facility that offered ECMO - I was too fragile to move and wouldn't survive the transfer. I woke up after 50 something days on life support - I spent another 40 odd days in ICU. I guess no-one gave up on me thank God. I hope your Grandmother shows some improvement.
