Two weeks ago, my dad (58 yrs old) had 2 acute strokes, 3 mini strokes, cardiac arrest and pneumonia (quintuple bypass 18 months ago). Since being admitted he has been in a medically induced coma fighting seizures. He has not had any seizures in the last few days but I feel as if the doctors are keeping us in the dark. As far as we know there has not been any tests performed and we are at a stand still. Is this normal? I know the seizures need to be under control before they can remove the vent and begin to wake him up but I feel days without an update is inappropriate. I'm concerned the longer he is in the coma and on the vent the harder it will be for him to wake up. Anybody know of or heard of this happening?

There has been multiple eegs and CTS. He has been on 3 seizure medications. A week ago they said there were two seizure medications left to try. The third medication has worse side effects than the effect to correct the seizures. He has been on the final seizure medication since Friday. No eeg since Friday. They did say the last scan did not show collateral damage. Is it normal to wait so long to see if the medication is working?

Unfortunately my dad is going to lose this battle. It is confirmed that he has catastrophic damage to his right brain from the seizure activity and multiple strokes. We are heading down to say our good byes. Thank you for your support during this time.

My husband was induced for seizures he was monitored by his brain waves to determine how often he was seizing. If they aren't monitoring his brain activity you may want to ask questions

Im leaving today for Alabama to see him. They have said that there is catastrophic damage from the seizures on the right side of the brain. It has been tough since I've been in Pennsylvania. I am hoping to get better news when I speak directly to the doctors. I will keep you posted. Thank you for your support.
