I'm scared. The oncologist told me that she does not prescribe any narcotic pain meds post op. Is Motrin going to be enough right out of surgery. Has this happened to anyone?

I have just had an abdominal hysterectomy and apart from the first day, i have been on paracetamol and ibuprofen. The opioids were horrendous in terms of what they did to me: spaced out fainting nausea etc.. I took myself off them with discussion with the doc. There is a little bit of discomfort but it reminds me not to do too much!. laprascopic will hopefully be less invasive than an abdominal and so I would trust your surgeon.... it will be ok: deep breaths and try not to worry.... hope it goes well ...😘

I presume you will have narcotics for the actual operation? It does take several hours to wear off. Will you be able to have diclofenac suppositories? I found these really helped. For me, the worst pain was the morning after, before I had the drain out. Once I had the drain out it was much better and comfortable with the suppositoris, paracetamol and/or ibuprofen, although I didn't have an abdominal procedure. Hope that helps and all the best for your op and recovery.

Yes that makes me feel better. I was worried because I mentioned I had a substance abuse history..sober 10 years!! That was the reason the doctor said she would only prescribe Motrin post op.. Thank you

I left hospital after 24 hours laproscopic vaginal hysterectomy endometrial stage 1 cancer age 59. I had naproxen and extra strength Tylenol as it’s called in Canada As prescribed for about/ weeks some days alternating if I had bent over too much or done too many stairs. Meds constipate me so remember fibre and Metamucil. I took one OxyContin tablet on day 3 and felt sick and it didn’t help. Walk every hour and it will relax gas and help heal u. Gently massage around your incisions . You have lots to heal even with laproscopic so take it easy
