Hi. I’m due to go in for this op very soon due to uterine masses. After my MRI results being discussed at the gynaecologist oncology MDM the oncologist has said that they are likely to be benign fibroids but they are unable to exclude uterine sarcoma.
I haven’t entered into menopause yet therefore will go through surgical menopause and be put onto HRT. little bit frightened by this and was wondering if anyone can give their experiences on this.
Hi there. I am in the same boat as you, and having having the same op next Tuesday. I will post any helpful things I learn for you. I was given protap injections to put into the menopause and Tibolone het to take the edge of it. So far so good. xx
Hi I had total hysterectomy and BSO last April stayed in overnight went home the next day. Managed on paracetamol for 3-5 days and no stitches on the outside as had it done laparoscopically. Plenty of rest post op and someone to look after you is useful as you won’t feel like doing much. Anyway went straight into oestrogen only HRT and will be in it until I’m 51 ( I’m 46 ). Best thing ever I’m pain free and no periods or smears is a bonus. Went back to work after 5 weeks ( I’m a sister in the nhs) but I can take up to a year to fully recover inside so don’t go rushing back to work to soon. I was fine. Hi Emma, thank you so much for your reply. Oh that is very reassuring to know you got out next day 😁. Hopefully I will be the same. They are hoping to start my surgery by the laparoscopic route, then complete with a mini laparotomy, so I am glad it’s not totally abdominal 😁. Yes I have to admit I am looking forward to no more smears or menstruation every cloud 😁
How are you feeling with HRT?

I feel great on the HRT no problems at at all. I’m lucky as they thought I had Endo but I just adhesions to my bowel bladder and pelvic wall which they excised otherwise I think if you gave Endo then there is a possibility it grows back whilst on oestrogen as it feeds it!!! All is good I went back to jogging and exercise after 6 weeks which was a bit soon and I wouldn’t recommend going back to exercise until at least 3 months as long as you have recovered without any complications. Main thing is to be as healthy and fit before your op as this will have a bearing on your recovery plenty of rest afterwards is key!! Any sort of incision in the abdomen will take time to heal so make sure you have someone to cook your meals and make you drinks as you will find moving around limited but as soon as you can walk around the house and up and down the garden this will help with the trapped air post op and peppermint tea is very good also. Just be positive and you will do well.x
Only adhesions...I am sure they were just as painful, although I know what you mean about the endo.
Sounds like it’s not as scary as I’m thinking 😁. Yes I’ve got my supply of peppermint tea in my hospital bag and a stash at home too.
What form of HRT have you been given? As in tablet? Patch etc... I know each hospital/ consultant will recommend different ones.
I’m on tablet form take one each night before I go to bed which is easier for me to remember!!! You will be fine just not very nice having any sort of op especially if it’s planned as when you go in you feel fine so know afterwards your going to be in some degree of pain makes you feel a bit anxious.xx
Yes the recovery part is definitely a bit daunting. Someone has mentioned that I will probably put weight on, which is a bit depressing as I was hoping to lose it. I currently look about 6 months pregnant.
It will fine you just need to eat healthy and try and be as fit as possible I lost about 5lbs post surgery as felt sick and didn’t want to eat much for the first week but you will soon get over that!!! It will take time to recover so don’t be too hard on yourself plenty of time for dieting once this is all over👍😄

they told me on the morning that they would be doing abdominal. Started off badly as they tried to give me spinal injection which failed on the fifth attempt they thought they had got it but it still hadn’t worked. At which stage they decided to give up on that. That was last Monday, onto ward and all was good, obs being taken every 2 hours blood oxygen level low so was on oxygen for a day or two - then late Tuesday night I started being violently sick followed by diarrhoea early weds morning. Was transferred to a side room for precaution but all was okay all samples came back clear 😁. They removed a 20cm uterine mass which has been sent for histology. Hopefully that will come back fine. I didn’t get discharged until yesterday so last night was the first in my own bed. Here’s to just healing now 😁. Thank you so much for asking xxx
Oh dear you really have been through it! Hope you will soon be feeling as though you’re on the mend. Please be patient with yourself and have plenty of rest, fatigue can be quite overwhelming in the first few weeks post op.

HELP!!!!
So I’m 3 weeks post op. I’ve been put on antibiotics (2days ago). But my abdomen is so so swollen and sore. I’m in more pain now than I was 3 weeks ago 
Should I be asking someone about this or is it normal? x
