3 weeks today post op

I had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy and both tubes removed but not my ovaries

Week one was spaced out on pain killers a lot of swelling and gas

Week two felt a lot better prob did too much as felt ok cleaning laundry etc

Week three weather been amazing sat in sun did some laundry ironing bit other housework jobs had antibiotics for 3 days as had a lot of discharge little pain and sweating so doc thought was an infection

Went out for a walk yesterday and I’ve had an awful night and feel dreadful today pains and discomfort stomach feels hot inside and feel aches all over

Woke in night with pains in my back and inside

Sorry long message but would love to hear opinions I feel it’s going be my own doing

Last but not least feel stupid calling my gp but when can I bath been having showers got this rock hard lump of glue in my belly button and frightened to take it out all healthy and clean but surely it can come out

Hi Skrose. It sounds like you’ve been over doing it a bit, but if you’re feeling hot there may well be an infection. If you’re still feeling unwell, I suggest you try and see your GP just to get checked out. Please take it easy. Even if you’re looking healed on the outside, there is a great deal of healing on the inside, especially the vaginal cuff scar, and that takes a lot longer. Take care. Xx

It’s the vaginal cuff thing that confuses me too

So I had a tlh and tubes out what do you know Re the cuff and how it affects you please x

The vaginal cuff is where they close you up at the top of your vagina as they remove your cervix in a total hysterectomy. It’s the most likely place to get an infection - it happened to me with an overgrowth of scar tissue, called a granuloma, and I had back to back infections for 6 months before it was diagnosed. It is worth being examined just to make sure it’s all ok. Will you have a follow up with your surgeon? If so, s/he would probably want to have a look. The symptoms are very similar to a UTI.

With regards to the lump of glue - don’t pull it off! Ask a nurse to have a look or wait for it to drop off of its own accord.

They’ve told me just a follow up in six months and Anything else go to gp which I did last week and she gave me an antibiotic only two days left of it to go so hoping it’ll be cleared soon

It’s so hard coming home after such a large op I stayed one night was completely gaga on morphine when Came home didn’t know how I felt and didn’t ask a thing just discharged and left to get on with it

Didn’t even know about the cuff

It’s so good to talk to someone who’s been through it so thank you for taking the time to reply

I lee thinking three weeks in and I should be improving but some days I feel worse

Dizzy and light headed too it’s all just frustrating x

It all takes time. 3 weeks is still very soon and you will feel tired and sore for a little longer. I used to be able to go for a little walk in the morning and then have to sleep in the afternoon for about 4 weeks. You might see the stitches come away from the vaginal cuff when you go to the loo - little threads on the loo paper. Otherwise, they just get washed away in the shower. I reckon 6 weeks is the turning point. I actually ended up staying 3 nights in hospital and having 11 weeks off but that’s because I work in a school and timed my op to coincide with the October Half term and was signed off until Xmas! I’m glad though that I was able to take that time and give my body a proper chance to recover. Remember, it is major surgery and although you can’t see much on the outside, there is lots of healing going on internally.

If you still don’t feel well, go back to your GP and ask to be examined.

It’s still early days. At week 4 I turned a corner but this week (5) I did too much...housework, walking, just generally stuff & I had awful pains by the evening. I was also very tearful...I had an abdominal but kept my ovaries, I’m thinking perhaps they’ve just woken up...

I have a lump of fluid on my left side so am off to the GP later to get results from ultrasound.

Just be kind to yourself, it really isn’t worth putting your recovery at risk - slowly slowly wins the race.

It’s a tough few weeks that’s for sure

I’ve been on antibiotics but finished Wednesday and I’m longing for a glass of wine ! Was thinking maybe now I’m clear of drugs I could at least I’ll sit on my backside and relax
