Hi,

Can anyone who's on hrt (I'm on patch and had LH BRO surgery) vouch that the cramp up in the neck n shoulders will go? Also found after sitting sometimes my leg will be dead, by the time I stand up I'm like a sailor on the deck with too much port in his belly!

Thank you.

Was your surgery recent? They fill your abdomen with gas and that can cause shoulder pain. It should go in time. I found peppermint tea worked well to release the gas, or you can get peppermint capsules from the chemist. Xx

It was 10 weeks ago Rachael. I'm dreading that it might be osteoarthritis starting as I have a finger that has terrible pain in the joint, my Mother has it.

I am actually really gassy still having a tonne of flatulence and when I stool (tmi sorry!) It's like a sausage machine between pumping out gas and little pieces. My bowel had extensive work done on it. I'm not in pain at all just a tiny bit heavy and crampy on the days I do too much, on my feet too much etc.

The cramp..When I sit down I'm noticing it when doing nothing at all!

I love peppermint tea!

Thank you!

I expect the shoulder pain is due to the gas, it’s very common. As for your bowels, I’d talk to your GP. Some buscopan or maybe a stool softener like ducosate might help. I remember being a bit like that, still am sometimes (and it’s over 2 years ago now), but it does take a while for your bowels to settle down. They don’t react well to being pushed around and operated on. What really helped me in the end was oats - hot porridge in the winter but I’ve moved on to “overnight” cold porridge now the weather’s warmed up a bit. Don’t forget, you’re still healing on the inside, and you need to rest plenty. Full recovery takes longer than most people think. Xx

Thanks so much I love porridge and would like to try the overnight oats! My sister would have these and she's adds fruit.

I'm really realising how important rest is. I have been reading some women feel a loss wheb their feminine organs are removed, I am not feeling a smidge of sadness on that respect (too much happiness like "good riddance"..) though I've still got back pain starting when I'm mildly active. I just hope I don't have it permanently, I really want to make the most out of the rest of my life, being as active as possible. I see this operation as a turning point!

Thank you for your help and advice its really appreciated.

Updating:

about 3.75 months post surgery the dead leg pain was gone at about 11weeks up until Today, a very busy day and sat in the car on long car journeys I had to literally wake my leg up and almost carry it across to the appointment waiting rooms its so bizarre that it happened twice today and prior to surgery I never remember this happening to my leg.

Neck pain went away and felt it was definately the op gas side effect.
