Hi everyone

I’ve had my laparoscopic total hysterectomy with BSO on Friday 9th March, still feeling crappy etc but that’s not what I’m concerned about, I had a catheter fitted once I was in surgery and got it taken out on the Saturday afternoon so think it was in maybe 20 hours, I’ve suddenly started to bleed quite bright red blood and it seems it coming from my urethra (sorry tmi) I’m just wondering if this is normal & am I worried for nothing

TIA x x

No, not normal. Did the hospital give you a number to phone if you had problems? If so phone them, otherwise phone your GP and explain exactly what the situation is to the receptionist, they can probably get a GP to phone you back right away.

I hope you have already sought medical attention but if not please do so straight away. I would just go straight to a&e.

Obviously I don't want to alarm you but this is not normal, I really hope it's something minor. I had bleeding from my bladder a few days after hysterectomy, I was also in horrific pain and developed a temperature.

It turned out my bladder had been punctured during surgery, urine leaked into my abdomen, I had a huge amount of infection which required intravenous antibiotics, I had another general anaesthetic, an extra 10 days in hospital followed by 6 weeks with a catheter.

As you haven't said you have any other severe symptoms then hopefully it will be something easily sorted but don't delay getting help.

Take care of yourself x

Finally had the hospital ring me back & of course I had to go in to be checked over, they think that it’s been a collection of blood that’s came away & if it happens again to give them a ring x

So glad you posted, I spent the afternoon wondering if you were okay.

Hopefully that's all it is and you will heal up in no time. Keep a close eye on it though and if you are worried at all go back.

Hope you have a smooth recovery from now on xx

Thank you Bettyheslop, fingers crossed it is just plain sailing from now on & ive only got 38 enoxaparin injections to go so hopefully they won’t be too bad either x

I remember those injections well! Think how you are going to feel in a few weeks, despite my nightmare recovery it was all worth it. Mine will be 2 years ago in June.

No more bleeding, pain free for first time I can remember, no more just feeling yuck!

You are going to feel fantastic before you know it xx

I can’t wait, no more panicking about when it’s going to happen & if it’s going spoil a day out or holiday etc 😁
