Hysterectomy in 11 days and counting.......

Well I am booked in for my surgery 24th May, Laparoscopic hysterectomy, removing EVERYTHING including cervix. God bless the NHS, they have got me in within 4 weeks of seeing the consultant after failed hysteroscopy. Got my Pre-Op next week, been told I will go into a surgical menopause immediately. I am nervous as to what I will be like post surgery and how the HRT will affect me but friends have said HRT (oestrogen only) is the BEST thing ever so fingers crossed .

Good luck. Take your time with recovery and listen to your body. You will be VERY tired. Start doing PFEs now. Oestrogen only HRT is a life changer. Made me feel human and, more importantly, female again. Patches work best for me - ask for bio identical.

One word of caution. Any sign of an infection must be checked by your GP urgently. I had an infection which my GP misdiagnosed as a recurrent UTI for six months before they found an infection on the vaginal cuff which had got so bad it had to be excised and cauterised under general. Had my GP examined me earlier, it could have been dealt with swiftly with a simple course of the appropriate antibiotics.

Take care. Hope it all goes well. X

Thanks for your message. I know it's going to be a struggle as I have OCD and not used to doing nothing!! Also got an autistic son who I care for and we are in the middle of large house extension so will be difficult not being able to tidy up mess!! On a brighter note looking forward to the HRT affects 😉

A little bit of tidying would be good exercise, but no heavy lifting, vacuuming, laundry or even washing up for a good few weeks. I hope you have someone to help. I found if I went for a gentle walk in the morning, I would be too tired to do anything in the afternoons. Took up knitting as a new hobby and made bonnets and booties for special care babies.
