I had a hysteroscopy last October because I have VERY heavy bleeding during my period. They wanted to check for fibroids etc and to fit a Mirena if no fibroids found.

All I can say is that it is not the most pleasant experiences in life but don't worry too much about it. The most difficult bit was making small talk with the gynaecologist!

Don't try to do too much for a couple of weeks after. Although it is a small procedure it still seemed to take more out of me than I thought it would

Hi, the pain was not so bad. It was more uncomfortable than painful. Try not to get too worried. I was worried before I had it but the nurses were fantastic during the procedure. It was all done in less than 1 hour.

I was told to take some painkillers before the procedure. It was just uncomfortable, there was some pain as the gynaecologist took some biopsies. Please don't get yourself into a state about things, it will only make things worse. Keep calm, deep breaths!

I took a couple of paracetamol about half an hour before. The gynaecologist used some numbing fluid in the vagina. Honesty it was over and done with in half an hour. I had a couple of nurses in there with me and they talked to me the during the whole thing.

Have you got a friend that could go with you to the appointmen

I was so worried anout pain. Terrified in fact. However I took a combination of my strongest painkillers from home. Two codydramol and four half mg clonazepam. Worked for me. The doc and nurse were amazing!! It was just today and I still can't believe I did it without general anesthetic! Just tell them you're anxious and maybe your GP can give you a stronger painkiller than aspirin but it depends on what u are used to. I obviously had these meds because I have chronic pain from fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis. Talk about it and plan. You will be fine. If not they can stop and do it under general about a week later. Good luck! xx

Sana50, how old are you and have you been having a lot of pain and discomfort. Is it interfering with your life style. Are they concerned that the thickening of womb could become cancerous? If the answers are yes then I would be saying yes. It is a procedure that can answer questions about how to treat you in the future. These things are always scarey but it is better to know what is going on than worrying about what might be.

I was awake and honestly the pain was minimal. I can't even believe I'm writing this because I thought for certain I would be in agony. It felt like I had my period and was uncomfortable. But we talked all the way thru so you don't feel on your own and it's easier. When they took a biopsy it hurt for about twenty seconds. I said ow And then laughed at myself. Then it was all over. Lol. That was it. (And I normally feel every little thing.). Talk to the nurses. Say u wd like someone calm to be there with you. I am on my own so had to ask for nurse to be my support. She was amazing.

Hi

I have just had this done today approx 2 hours ago. After reading some of other comments I was half expecting it to be really painful. I can honestly say that at worse I would describe it as only slightly uncomfortable in parts.

I did take 2 paracetamol and 2 ibuprofen an hour before as recommended and it was over and done with in around 20 mins. I had biopsy taken of part of wall of womb and only felt a slight nip with a crampy feeling which lasted a few seconds. Hopefully this will come back ok- also had mirena fitted at the same time to reduce thickening of womb lining. The doctor also said I had activity in part of womb which shouldn't really be happening as I am post menopause but the mirena should sort that out and will go for check up in 3 months provided biopsy comes back ok. I honestly believe that if you try to stay relaxed and take pain killers beforehand it will be better for you ( I just lay there singing a song in my head to take my mind off it). Afterwards you do bleed slightly so take pads with you to use which apparently can last a few days and I will take a couple more pain killers soon just in case - although I could do without probably. Back to work tomorrow.

Hope this helps. (I am 54 years old)

Hi post menapause and first teading was 6.7 for thickening of womb lining then 7.4 couple if months later so mainly as a precaution to stop it getting any thicker- better be safe than sorry I think. Been bleeding slightly over last two days but reckon this is the last of womb lining shedding- other than that feel just as normal so hope redults come back ok

Hi

Just an update- Started bleeding 6 days after hysteroscopy so reckon mirena must be working. Still bleeding slightly 12 days later but seems to be getting less. This is the only after effects I have had apart from the odd slight pain much like a period pain- but nothing to moan about at all.
