Fragmin and brain bleeds

Hi all im currently 7 months pregnant and on fragmin I've recently started getting bad headaches and I've been worrying about brain bleeds from the fragmin I was just wondering of the likeliness of fragmin causing something like that.

I would book an appt with your GP, or if it is a really bad experience then I would get to a&e if your really worried.where they can do a ct scan, I think the injection is more predicatable and manageable and safer than warfarin which can fluctuate a lot, but i suppose there are risks too with anything that thins the blood. Fragmin stops the platelets sticking rather than thinning the blood as such and works in a slightly different way than warfarin. It could just be pregnancy related, so i would try to stop fretting but equally be cautious and put your mind at rest - pregnancy is stressful enough isnt it!! xxxx

Fragmin is a factor Xa inhibitor not an anti platelet agent. It is more similar to warfarin since it also acts on the clotting cascade rather than platelets. The metabolism can change with advancing pregnancy and some will check the anti Xa level as pregnancy advances to ensure the proper dosing. Agree the only way to know for sure if a bleed is the cause of your headaches is to get a Ct scan. It is in the differential diagnosis but benign headaches are also common in pregnancy.

I would get checked out for your own peace of mind, suffering with bad headaches is not good at the best of times, being pregnant too is more of a worry. Ask your GP

Please get it checked out, i would also let your midwife know, headaches can be a fwctor in other pregnancy related conditions so your midwife needs the heads up too. How is your blood pressure?
