Second TEE procedure

Is it normal for my new Cardiologist to want me to have a second TEE procedure after having one 7 years ago? I had the first one because tests showed that I had an interatrial septal aneurysm in my heart. My Cardiologist wanted to check if I had a hole in my heart. I was told I didn't have a hole after the TEE.

I had one years ago. No issues found. I'm glad that I live in an era when we have access to such detailed imaging. Happy New Year!

Yes I feel the same, I'm happy they are able to see so much more on tests these days! I was just wondering why I needed a 2nd TEE after the 1st TEE 7 yrs ago showed no hole in my heart. A Healthy and Happy New Year to you as well! Thanks for taking the time to reply to my question! 😊

I have had 1 TEE recently, and prior to being referred to a hematologist (who diagnosed my APS). The TEE was done to look at the heart and determine if my arterial clot was coming from the heart (cardiologist determined it was not). I would have another down the road if cardiologist recommended just to see if any changes in heart. Good luck.

I think 5 - 7 years after the 1st one would be reassuring that they are checking no further clots or damage?Maybe your new cardiologist wants to cover things for themselves- I suggest you talk through your questions with them?

I have had 1 TEE after my 1st stroke that gave negative results, although I have had 4 angio's since, as this test is the only way to check for me. Each time I am nervous of the procedure but reassured after that measurements and scans show little deterioration.

Thanks for responding to my question. I guess I'm just a little worried & nervous about having another TEE! I'm thinking my Cardiologist just wants to get a closer look, since I had a TIA 7 yrs ago. Also both my parents had heart attacks and strokes and my one of my older brothers had a TIA several yrs back and my other brother was recently diagnosed with SVT in the ER just like I have. So it seems this runs in my family. Wishing you a Happy, Healthy New Year! 😊

Happy NY, i had a TEE years ago after i had had a stroke and they wanted to find out if the clot could have originated in my heart. The TEE exposed “ vegetation growth” i then had open heart surgery. , where they verified i had Libman sachs, which is associated with APS… so they are probably seeing if things for you… are still the same as before
