INR testing Australia

It seems to be sometime since the messages on INR tests in Australia. I wonder if there is any up to date info on tests in Sydney and east coast as far as Cairns

Hi, I'll ask my brother in law who lives just outside Melbourne but does travel up the East Coast.

What particifically are you requesting info on in relation to your question?

The Aussie health system works like this- you can go to any doctor or medical centre along the way (some bigger places have their own nurse to do blood tests for a lab) otherwise send you to nearest pathology place. You can go to ED and wait for hours to do same thing (not classed as emergency) and usually get results after couple of hours. you will have to pay for GP consult and lab test as reciprocal health care only available as an emergency. The person ordering tests will usually contact you via phone, but don't expect every GP to be aware of APS or your 'best' level for INR.

You can claim these visits from your travel insurance when you get home. Hope it helps.

Further to OzChick's reply, my brother in law has replied -

'Easy, need to bring paperwork along detailing their dosage, target and last test results and must be from a registered doctor and signed by them. Then report to a testing centre, I use Melbourne pathology, which is a national business throughout Oz. However other companies are available and easy to find on the internet. However there may be a fee associated with each test, (Approx $50), not sure what reciprocal arrangements are available from private medical insurance or NHS?'
