Endometrial Ablation Experience?

Hi, I have been living with APS for just over five years and frequently read the posts here with great interest, I have learnt a lot from you all 😀

I am 49 and take baby aspirin and plaquenil. I have extremely heavy periods causing anaemia as a lot us APS ladies seem to suffer with. I have been offered an ablation or a hysterectomy as I have a prolapse too. If you have had an ablation would you recommend it? I’m concerned at reading some women develop extreme cramping pain in the months and years afterwards - a documented problem known as Post Ablation Syndrome and then still need a hysterectomy. I’d be grateful for any experiences 😀

Thank you in advance.

I had a hysterectomy when I was 40. The ablation was a fairly new thing at the time but I do remember the relief of no more heavy periods. I wasn't diagnosed at the time with APS but was very anaemic and tired all the time. Never regretted it!

I have not had this myself, however a few I know have had the ablation and been fine. I am sure you will get some detailed answers.

BEST decision I ever made!!!! My periods were horrible and debilitating!! I have APS and take Coumadin. After the ablation, I haven't bled a drop and didn't have any cramping. Many years later, I did experience some strong ovarian pain. My doc didn't want to do a hysterectomy because she wanted to keep my ovaries in as long as possible for the hormones. So, she put me on birth control and I got some depo lupron. That pain seems to have ended. There are two ways to do it: thermal balloon inserted and intense heat scalds endometrial layer or scraping method. I had the latter since my uterus is tiny and the balloon option wouldn't work.

Hi Holley, thank you for your reply. I have read online of many women who’ve had an ablation suffering with strong pain later down the line which is what is stopping me committing to an ablation at the moment despite awful periods. However, it’s great to hear your view that it was the best decision ever and that pain you had later was sorted with birth control. Thank you for giving me some confidence in moving forward with my decision 😀 you have been very helpful.

Hi

Like you , I suffered from heavy periods and anemia. I had an balloon ablation about 10 years ago. Never had any complications and anemia was resolved. Best thing I ever did!
