itchy skin

Hi just wondering is anyone has had itchy skin,all over and also my skin looks like I have a tan.,it comes and goes.

Hi littlesinger1, I can itch my skin till it bleeds sometimes and yes it does also sometimes look like I have a suntan too, although I definitely don't because I'm completely sun intolerant. If I go in the sun I break out in a terribly rash, especially my face and being in the sun can make me feel physically sick too. I don't yet have a diagnosis for APS but have had multiple DVTs, PEs and TIAs and so many APS and lupus symptoms. I know that the itching to my legs is caused in part by venous insufficiency from having had multiple DVTs and I just had a special ultrasound on my legs and abdomen which showed I have incompetent veins, meaning that the valves don't work properly and so the blood flows backwards. I noticed that you posted another question about having heavy painful legs and I definitely have that too,they can keep me awake for hours at night. Do you have an APS or lupus diagnosis? Claire

As always I wonder if you have a Doctor to speak with who have had patients like you with both APS and Lupus-symptoms and who knows autoimmun illnesses as a speciality? That is the Doctor you need.

If not, change Doctor. I also read you have not yet had a diagnose of HS/APS. The same with Lupus?

Please go to your GP to investigate. There are many reasons for itchy skin, most are benign.

If there has been a change in colour (sun tan) ie not just read as would be the case from dermatitis, you will need routine blood tests to rule out jaundice, which is referred to in one of the replies.

Don't rely on forums - go to your dotor!

Yes my itching started out on my left lower leg, now I’m itching on my left forearm, also itching on my right ankle. I’m being told it is contact dermatitis?!?!?! By my GP. I’ve made an Appt with a dermatologist later this month. Someone mentioned something about the Liver? Could someone tell me the connection?

Also I’ve had ultrasound on my legs they are ok. I don’t have a ‘tan’ like color with the rash/itching. As far as I know there is not a problem with my veins. Could it be a med reaction? Warfarin, Plaquenil,synroid, vitamin are my current meds.

There are many reasons for itchy skin and skin rashes/colouration. Which is why you should always see your GP or specialist.

For me, I have had itchy skin for many years. My liver specialist has always told me its too much fat in my blood. He treats me with questran granules, which also helps colestrol levels (although I have never seen a change in this for me & has always been below 5, even when I had my strokes).

I have suffered from itchy skin for aprox. 2 years. I do itch till I bleed . It is painful and embarrassing and I have seen my doctor about it. No investigation as to why or what it is. He said he thought it is drug related. "Drug users have itchy skin therefore ......" . Wow, I take Tramadol and that is what he is pointing the finger at. So who really knows, I just know that I suffer from it and wish I did not. I have tried anti itching cream, not! Having a shower, not! Hold my skin under fresh running water ....... not! Now I just go with the itch and wish I was, not! LOL! Boy I am such a mess!

You are not alone. Mine start up every night. I try so hard to go to sleep before it starts because it cannot be resisted.

Hi,

This is an autoimmun illness that can attack a lot of different parts of the body and also the skin so a Specialist of autoimmun illnesses knows what autoantibodies and bloodsamples to take to find HS/APS, Sjögrens, SLE and others also.

When you have got a diagnose and a Specialist it is easier to know how to treat the skin.

Myself I use Prednisolon from time to time for my eyes, ears, face etc.

Also I always use support stockings. I have had red little dots on my lower legs for years and after they have been red they get almost brown. Peetichies (wrong spelling?) they are called I think.
