High fibrinogen in pregnancy

Hi all,

Hoping someone can shed some light as consultant didn't mention anything and gp doesn't have a clue.

I'm currently 38 weeks 4 days pregnant. Due for induction 23/7. My last clotting screen was done on the 27/6 the only thing that came back out of range was:

Fibrinogen 5.4 (normal range 2.8-4.7)

Is this anything to be concerned about? No one seems to be able to tell me either way.

Hi, I dont think its anything to worry about, its to do with clotting and proteins. Im sure my admin colleagues will know more about it. I have just looked it up and it naturally goes up during pregnancy. The normal range for the 3rd trimester is 3.7 - 6.2.

As long as your consultant is aware (and remind him when you go in), when you are being induced.

Consultant didn't actually say anything at all! Midwife didn't have a clue, I thought GP would know but didn't and I couldn't really find anything on google.

They are due to take bloods when I go into labour so will remind them then!

I hope the very best for your delivery make sure they monitor you very closely for thrombosis after the birth for at least 12 weeks. Make sure to stay hydrated, drinks lots of water, fluids to keep circulation flowing at its best. May God be there with a calm hand and bless you and your new little one with being healthy🙏🏻🦋🦋🦋

Hia, this last week has just dragged! I can't wait until it's all over!!!!

Plus she's teasing me - I keep getting labour pains, but they only last a couple of hours and then stop!

How are your little ones?

They are good thanks, just goes so fast! My baby is coming up to 18 months now! And my little boy is 4 and starting school in September.

I know, it just feels like u are pregnant forever when it's u, but to others it seems to go quickly. Well hopefully she's gonna make an entrance soon then, before u go for induction maybe.

Interestingly, I was having a repeat Doppler of my arm today ( I'm in the throes of drama drama drama... entire length of brachial in clotted with no flow. Did I mention drama? ) Any way, I though of you while talking to the doctor about d- dimers! They measure fibroginen, or, he said, also they can measure, " how likely is this person going to form a clot? When can a false positive occur?

He gave a few scenarios, a very common one was pregnancy, simply because all pregnant women are hypercoaguable.

Thanks for thinking of me. I think I will definitely be keeping a close eye after baby. After my last miscarriage I had some very strange bruising (in the join of my right groin and in the join at the back of my right knee) both very black and in positions which seemed impossible by trauma. This was before I was tested for aps and gp just dismissed me...
