Warfarin is a Vitamin K antagonist and, I believe, works by competing with Vit K in the liver; the liver uses Vit K to make certain clotting factors. Therefore, fluctuations in your Vit K intake will affect the dose of Warafrin that you require to achieve and/or maintain a specific INR.

Hi Tim

As you know, we are not medical professionals on here, so I cannot tell you about drug interactions but, from my own experiences, I found that many drugs and over the counter remedies can interact with Warfarin.

I was still getting clots and TIAs on Warfarin, so Prof Hughes moved me over to Fragmin injections and I have been much better on that.

I cannot find a drug called aziophrine, the nearest match is 'azathioprine' is that what you mean?

Thanks Tim

If you google it it does seem to have an interaction with Warfarin, it is noted as reducing the anticoagulatory action of Warfarin.

My INR was extremely difficult to regulate in the beginning. At one point I was taking 17mg of Coumadin, I have been on 11mg for a few years now. It fluctuates even if I keep my diet consistent. As mentioned earlier many medications, supplements and diet can affect things.

Hi Tim,

Is it prof Hunt who has prescribed the Azathioprine?

How is your selftesting going? Do you often take a shot when the INR is too low?

As said before Azathioprine interacts with other drugs a lot! What does prof Hunt say about it?

Also as I know you drink red wine to relax and to be able to sleep that can interfere and make the Warfarin raise. I always drink the same dose of red wine (1 glass) so I stay in my therapeutic range with the Warfarin and also not damage the liver.

If you eat green vegetables eat the same amount of them. They will lower your INR. Make notes if you make changes with the Warfarin-dose and other drugs and food, otherwise is can be difficult to learn to handle your selftesting and also our memory is not the best; at least not mine.

Good Luck and talk to the Professor Hunt.

Prof hunt put me on azathoiprine she said wafrin wasn't working and my aps was to strong that's why I have micro clots on my brain 😊 I'm on max dose now and this should stop me getting any more micro clots on brain 🤞Prof hunt said I had have been having small strokes and the damage shows up as permanent marks on my brain

Many thanks Tim
