I'm somewhat new to APS and often seen aPL written when referring to it. What does this stand for or mean?
aPL...: I'm somewhat new to APS and... - Hughes Syndrome A...
aPL...
It is used often as reference to the Antiphospholipid antibodies MaryF
I do have all three. I also test, positive for a couple other antibodies, bur don't have symptoms other than for APS.
Due to have antibody tests ran again in August.
I have all four, aCL in IgM and IgG.
I have also very high titres but I feel fine. I must be very lucky so far!
As a matter of fact I do not think they are so important. It is more important to be well anticoagulated and have a Specialist who understands your problem. That is what I have found.

The disease of many names. Once upon a time, my medical documentation was lost prior to a transatlantic flight. I got into an argument with the stewardess concerning my need to have a seat with leg room. I explained I had a coagulation disorder and she demanded to know the name of my disease. I replied, "Antiphospholipid syndrome, also known as Hughes syndrome, also called APS, also called APLS, also called APL, also called sticky blood syndrome, and my personal favorite – sludge blood." The stewardess scoffed, but a fellow passenger raised her hand, stood up, and said" I am a colleague of the doctor who first discovered this disease. She would not know all the names this disease goes by unless she in fact had the disease. She needs the legroom."
And I read online a couple of years ago that some doctors in the US want to add yet another name to our illness. I can't remember what they want to call it – I guess that file in my mind is too full for an addition.
