My turn to ask a question

Has anybody alongside the fatigue and migraines developed any cramp in their arms. My daughter has had almost a daily migraine since November and now has cramp in both arms? She is on Aspirin and Plaquenil, and has a diagnosis of Systemic Lupus and Sero negative Hughes Syndrome, we await further help in the next few days. MaryF

Hi Mary I don't get cramp but do get a numbness which creeps up from my hand to my face on the left side. It is always on the left and happens before a migraine attack usually. Recently though I keep straining muscles without knowing how I've done it and spend days in agony so not sure if this is a similar problem to the cramps your daughter is suffering.

I get cramp too Mary in both my arms and legs and in the muscles in my back. For me it is usually an indication that the lupus is active, and that I have inflamation. Hopefully you'll get to the bottom of it in the next couple of days. xxx

Thanks xx MaryF

I have suffered cramp in my legs mainly but sometimes in my hands quite a lot over the last couple of years. As far as headaches go they are only usually present if i am generally unwell, possibly in a lupus flare or i get unannounced ice pick headaches at indeterminate intervals.

I have recently started taking k2 (mk7) in addition to extra d3. Since the k2 i dont seem to be suffering the cramps in the same way. It might just be coincidental or something else may have changed

Mary: I do indeed have arm cramps from time to time. It does not seem to matter if I've been lifting weights or just laying around. I've concluded it's just part of the program. Sorry to hear of this development for her. Best..Dan

Thanks. It goes with an almost continual migraine, funny turns and slurred speech. MaryF

I used to get cramps, but magnesium helped. Hope your daughter gets help!

Yes we already use magnesium, so not that. Also not lack of iron or B12 or D. MaryF

I also get the neck, shoulder & back pain together with the numbness, it's like the muscles are constantly tight. It is your daughter's constant headaches that are of concern, maybe a scan is needed just to put your mind at rest.

I can remember going through a few months of the most awful migraines, i never did find out the cause.

I hope your lass feels better soon. xx

Like her brother she needs a therapeutic trail of Heparin, which I shall push for, but it is the usual sero negative nightmare. MaryF

Whether it's Hughes or Lupus related I don't know, but I do get cramps in my feet and sometimes hands, and also a lot of aching in my upper arms, when either condition is worse or just before my period. I've not found anything to help really.

Also, further to your post thanking Kerstin, can I say a big thank you to YOU and the other administrators of this Forum. I find it an enormous source of high quality information and support and that is, in no small part, due to the truly excellent job done by its administrators.

Thanks, she has not overdone anything, just constantly coming home from school, also given up on music lessons and also most social things, as she feels so awful. She is in good spirits though. MaryF

I get Severe cramps in the front muscles of my legs, which is very difficult to alleviate. The only thing that helps is to eat a banana! Strange at 3 o'clock in the morning but it works. Presume it's the potassium. Best wishes, Stella

Thank you. MaryF ps bananas contain magnesium, so there is a clue. I rub on magnesium oil for restless legs or lack of sleep and it works very well, for both myself and the children.

I get severe pain in both arms and legs but only when in a flare. Not cramp as such, more like really bad growing pains (if anyone had those apart from me!)

Thanks, I hope yours is ok at the moment. MaryF

Thanks, it has turned into more of a pain now rather than cramp, and in time to her migraine. MaryF

Hi Mary. I have just seen my GP the other day,as I have parasthesia in both arms. I have been referred urgently to a neurosurgeon as I wake up with no feeling in both of my arms, but also pain in my upper arms. The feeling comes in my arms, back when I move my neck, but the pain stays. I have been put on morphine. My migraines start when my IN goes below 2.9 . I hope your daughter gets some answers. Bernie

How is your B12 as deficiency often missed by GP's is often the cause of this, and also so many of us have a hidden Thyroid problem due to the awful TSH test... which is not fit for purpose. Often this then appears to make iron and b drop as well as the D. My daughter is on iron, b12 and D and has it regularly checked. MaryF

Hi Mary, I am Niamh, 17, I have had a continuous migraine for nearly 3 years, with numb fingers, thumping in my ears and a temporary loss of peripheral vision in my right eye. Clear scans etc, though a contrast injection provided a couple of months relief??? before the headache and numb fingers crept back. I have memory problems, and sometimes struggle to string sentences together. When the pain spikes to 10/10, I pass out, and can be unresponsive for up to 2 hours, though I can sometimes hear people speak to me. Having read about Hughes, my mum gave me aspirin, which stopped nose bleeds, the tingling fingers, and the thumping in my ears!! Plus my headache is down to 5/10, and I have only fainted twice in 2 months, and then only for a few mins. On the back of this we went to see Prof Hughes (got nowhere with GP) and I am now on my third day of fragmin....so fingers crossed! My bloods were ok, but my response to aspirin was very marked. It turns out there is a family history of auto immune conditions. I hope your daughter manages to get rid of her headache, as mine gets blamed (by neurologist) on 'exam stress'. These A S exams have been the first exams I have done while being able to hold a pen without my fingers hurting...if it was stress I don't think aspirin could have done that!

Not cramps exactly, but pain, heaviness, weakness.

Was one of the first things I noticed back in 2005.

I,m currently flaring and usually don't go out until the afternoon, I am no good at getting ready in a hurry, but today I had an appointment at the optician 10.20.

I said to my daughter in law on the phone when I got home" I feel like I have carried a ton, but I carried nothing, not even a handbag
