Just like last summer when I tried to insure my family by working through the list on the charity website - one again nobody will insure our family - once they make me work through the list of conditions... they all say no....any advice gratefully received!

Hi Mary

I got advised by my consultant to try Staysure, and whilst a bit on the pricey side just for myself, they insure me no problems, even with the conditions I have.

Hope this helps you

Take care

Sorry about the slow response. I've had annual worldwide travel insurance with Saga for a number of years and after being diagnosed with APS and lupus they were happy to extend cover for an increased premium. I haven't found another company to quote a lower figure but I think this is probably due to the fact that I already had an annual policy with Saga prior to the APS diagnosis. However, earlier this year I was given the name of freedominsure.co.uk who are a specialist insurer covering lesser known conditions including Hughes syndrome and SLE. They gave me a quote which, at £335 for an annual worldwide policy, was a little more expensive than Saga but nevertheless better than other companies. Experience seems to tell me that once you have a policy it's worth renewing it each year because you are less likely to be penalised so heavily if you need to notify them about a new medical intervention. I've had companies refuse to provide cover because during the previous 1-2 years I've had routine follow-up appointments and referral to physio.

Hi again,

You have just started warfarin with an INR quite too low. It is perhaps not the best time to travel abroad before your INR is stabilized. I would not do it. Anyway talk with your APS-Specialist who understands this illness what his opinion is.

Oh thanks Kirstin...your advise is valuable. I wont see my rheumatologist for few months as he's on leave but your advise sounds sensible.I was looking at going away for a break after my daughters wedding next week but maybe I will look for holiday in UK instead then.

Kind regards
