I m new here so I have some confusion about autism. I just want to know that if a child have autism but not in a swear mod so he is joine the special school like I mean he is not able to go to the mainstream school

Hi Fari78,

It depends on how severe the child is affected. My son has a diagnosis of HIgh Functioning Autism (similar to Asperger Syndrome) but he attends a mainstream school. He needs special help, like several hours of one-to-one tuition, but he can generally cope with what is required from him in a mainstream environment.

Please can u explain the point in detail becoz I will fight for him in court I know he needs a one to one tuition

Along with his diagnosis he has a Statement of Special Educational Needs. The statement dictates that he has 20 hours a week of one to one tuition. He also works in small groups and has a modified work area to minimise distractions.

If you're in the UK I would suggest using the National Autistic Society hotline to get some information. They'll be able to help you and give advice.

It depends on the situation and on the parent's wishes for their child. A lot of children with autism go to mainstream school, but some do need more support than can be provided in a mainstream setting.

Thanks for reply I m fighting with the council that I wish my child join to a mainstream school but they continuously refuses my request n then I put appeal against their decision now I have a hearing in court please give me any advice

I have ASD and I was stuck in the special department of my school, where everything was special for the children. If the child is affected mildly, they might leave that department like i did, when everything got too easy, but if the child is finding it hard to cope or complete tasks the school might give the child easier tasks, but if they leave the 'support place' then they are in mainstream, and will do natural lessons unless they have foundation lessons.
