Advice regarding post treatment for many years of hep c.

Hi. New to the forum and wondered if anyone can offer advice. Im fortunate enough to have recently been successfully treated for hep c. 26 yrs+ ago I was tested and told Id previously had and naturally cleared Hep b. But was infected with hep c. I had no treatment at the time other than a biopsy and have occasiinally been callled in for tests to check how I was doing. After a few years of these I told the doctor I was interested in treatments, as Id read there were some available. He in turn contacted me last year to offer me a 3 month course of pills which Im told has left me clear of hep c after at least 26 years (I was told at time of first test that I had probably been infected years prior to this, though recall no real symptoms). While this is great news, I recently had 2 fibroscans which showed I had cirrhosis.. To be fair I am of slight build and the girl doing the scan complained she couldnt find my liver! Again, no real symptoms, only a little fatigue, however my blood tests did not back this up. A subsequent fibroscan and ultra sound showed I had some liver scarring but nothing serious? Im confused by this. Im continuing to lose weight and spend the majority of time in bed knackered?

I understood hep c to be a progressive disease. Now that the virus is undetected, am I still considered ill with a progressive disease? Will the scarring continue? And how do I stand with regards to 'declaring' my status? Though it is undetectable, do I still have it? I am due more scans soon, but have rarely seen a consultant to discuss anything with. Where else can I get good information?

i would suggest going to a GI doctor and he should run complete blood panel and he would be able to tell if it has come back,,,and he would follow up with treatment... i have chronic hep B &C . Got it probably in 70's with no signs... then in 2003 it became active...did 11 months treatment and then it resurfaced 3 months later and went thru another 11 months of interferon. That was 5 yrs ago and now it is back...they told me that just a negative and positive test for hep is not always accurate...thats why you need complete panel of blood work for hep c.....when it is in remission it doesnt progress but when it comes back, it does progress like cancer would until treated.
