Acute Hepatitis b

Hello I’ve just joined this community unfortunately I recently contracted acute hepatitis b and am finding it difficult to find info on it even from medical professionals! I’m just wondering is there anyone here that would have had acute hepatitis b or have experience with it?

Thanks :)

Hi John , I speak from personal experience, not in any way qualified . All the literature on Hep.B will tell you that most people overcome the infection without problems , which as you are in the acute phase my well be outcome for you . I am co infected with HIV , so first piece of advice is if you think you could have been exposed , get an HIV test . Because I was diagnosed HIV and Hep.B at the same time the HIV took my attention off the Hep.B .Now ten years down the line the Hep.B is proving the more difficult condition to manage . If you do not clear the infection after six months it will be considered chronic .The clinic will take bloods to do a viral count , and whilst the count remains below a certain level it's unlikely you will be offered treatment . Once on treatment it is vital you stick to the regime . One point to keep in mind is not to infect anyone else , Hep.B virus can survive in the environment for up to a week , and although the primary source of infection is sex it can also be spread from saliva .
